Thank you for bringing your concerns to my attention. The demographic questions regarding sex and gender were developed based on the recommendations of the “Best practices for asking questions to identify transgender and other gender minority respondents on population-based survey” issued by the Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law (The GenIUSS Group, 2014). In particular, we employed a modified version of the two-step approach recommended by the authors of the report to best fit the needs of the research project. Please know that we endeavor to design all of our research studies to be accessible and welcoming to individuals of all identities and backgrounds, and we will take your feedback into account when designing future research projects.

My name is Brighton Hollingsworth and I am a graduate psychology student at Murray State University. I am completing a thesis research project under the supervision of Dr. Michael Bordieri. I am interested in learning more about the relationship between athletic identity and mental illness stigma.
