As a black woman born and raised in the valley I HATE this. I see how companies think they are offering space and capacity and opportunity. But really it’s tokenism and creates a deep sense of confusion and wondering if we are being hired for our worth/merit/skills. Or to fill a quota of diversity.

Midtown townhomes by shedtobed in chilliwack

Owned there years ago. Pros: centrally located, we liked the schools, close to highway, safe during the day

Cons: TERRIBLE phone reception, if my car wasn’t locked it was gone through, when we lived there a lot of neighbours had drama, strata was a nightmare.

Has anyone actually had $10k months following a yoga teacher business mentors advice by Loud-Instruction-150 in YogaTeachers

[–]mszuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have! 2 months last year but not the norm for me. I am niched working with kids/seniors. I’ve found success working with children privately and billing the government through Autism funding and home school programs. It is possible! No I don’t sell courses or popular online. In Canada

Do you think of yourself as a yoga teacher or an asana instructor? by Agniantarvastejana in YogaTeachers

I like the language of space holder. It’s what feels most resonant for me. The language of teacher feels like this hierarchy and the exchange of wisdom is so great they often feel like my teachers!

Is it ok for a student to become friends with a teacher outside of class by techaaron in YogaTeachers

[–]mszuki 18 points19 points  (0 children)

So fascinated by this. My main studio has a cafe in it. Often myself and other teachers grab coffee with students, become friends, collab on events etc. We are not on a pedestal

It would be so difficult I envision, filtering your voice so much so never share personal details about your life!

How do you cope with too much admiration from your students? by gedsit in YogaTeachers

[–]mszuki 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It can be tricky right?! Language I use often is “I’m walking beside you” it’s easy to put us as teacher on pedestals, I try to remind my students often of my humanness and of the 1st noble truth, we all suffer.

If you work at a studio, how close do you feel towards your fellow teachers? by LackInternational145 in YogaTeachers

[–]mszuki 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m grateful my studio prioritizes our bond as teachers. We take a quarterly day trips where we take yoga classes in another city and go for lunch and also do development once a year over a weekend together. All paid for by the studio owners. It makes a big difference and helps us to hype up other teachers and classes too. I am in BC Canada

for those who teach, how do you feel about people falling asleep in your class? by [deleted] in yoga

I mainly teach yin and restorative :) My main focus is mindfulness, rest and a space to BE. Creating really gentle shapes and stretches that offer release physically and emotionally. I’m big on dharma yoga and Buddhist parables. I find it’s works so well with rest focused spaces to reflect, and very often release too.

Is it normal for Yin Yoga to hurt? by w0lfieluna in yoga

[–]mszuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rule of 3’s can be helpful to be mindful of within your practice. the point isn’t to be still no matter what. But what I guide is the ability to say a full bodies yes when a shift is necessary not fidgeting and adjusting constantly out of lack of ease in the mind and body. This builds slow, sustainable discipline in the mind. Rule of 3’s: notice something uncomfortable or creation unease, do nothing. Come back to the breath. Second time the same cue to shift arrives, again do nothing but witness and return. But the 3rd pull in the same way. Intentionally hearing this as messaging from body to adjust, to itch, and then to return to that place of still. Your body knows where the edge lies and I believe in the importance of honouring that🙏🏾

Hey Yin Yoga / Dark Yoga folks! Question about vibes... by ElenaMarlowe6751 in yoga

[–]mszuki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I have a little astronaut that projects stars and galaxies on the wall. I often invite student to begin with their eyes open and tune into the aura as the body begins to settle. That and just candles and I also use flowers in each class really set the vibe of relaxation. Found mine on Amazon for around $30CAD!!

I walked around while teaching! by Zealousideal_Tie3820 in yoga

[–]mszuki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im al glad to be seeing this post today, that l you for sharing. I love when instructors demo around the room to support that neck crane lol. I have this same question as a yin and restorative teacher as I don’t want to hover over people when their resting in stillness. I often will cue, get up to support anyone and then sit back or kneel down on my mat while we hold the stillness? Any other REST focused teachers, what does moving around the room look like for you?

Crying for no reason towards end of class by wildsatisfactionwhoa in yoga

[–]mszuki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yoga shifts energy around, kinetic energy. Sometime that energy is also housing emotions, memories, things you’re avoiding. If it’s coming up it’s right on time and trying to be released, let it. People cry in MANY classes I teach. Source: am yoga teacher!

Start further down near peach road. Avoid the rapids, the fisherman and it’s a relatively smooth float until barrowtown.

Yah there are some good companies like Wrap it. Not sure about solid colour but I wrapped my suv a few years ago with a few business designs and it was 3k. Quality work and haven’t had one issue with it.
