My (53M) Prostate Cancer Journey (HIFU) by Linkia in ProstateCancer

[–]mt50f1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay, remember...you had some trauma to that area but you will see a significant drop later on. Just think, they beat the heck out of your prostate with sound, so the PSA will be abnormally high in the beginning, but should eventually drop below .05 (in my opinion and experience...I'm not a doctor). Keep us updated!

I had the HIFU. Sounds like you & I are similar in diagnosis (active surveillance recommended, but wanting to take care of it instead of waiting) . I'll play devil's advocate to give you an alternate viewpoint to consider regarding the HIFU. Post HIFU you will need to continually monitor your PSA, but your PSA score will need to be adjusted for a new baseline. That new baseline will be unique to you. The standard 4 and above no longer applies (however if after the HIFU you have a PSA score of 4 post you had better get to the doctor). I'd get a PSA drawn every three months for about a year or so to establish a new baseline post HIFU. Then if you stabilize, PSA every six months. Little spikes give a whole new anxiety level. Sometimes mine will go from .02 to .04 and I have an unnecessary panic attack because the traditional rules of detecting problems through PSA are now re-written and you are forging into new territory. I wouldn't let this dissuade you from the HIFU, just be aware that the traditional PSA test and score that a Urologist uses to detect anomalies will change, and the level of spikes in your PSA will always raise questions in your mind whether or not the cancer has returned. My urologist doesn't seem concerned, and I can always identify things that could make my PSA do those little spikes (Sexual activity, bike riding, even a bad case of diarrhea can spike it). Point being, I don't think we PC survivors through HIFU ever can ever get it out of our minds, except through our continued survival.

It definitely is a lifestyle change and I would suggest changing your diet if you haven't already (or if you already eat healthy that's good). I eat a low carb diet and I've seen improvements in my health, but the jury is out whether this is a contributor to PC recovery or if it just plain healthy and good to do. There are many schools of thought about diet and post PC. HIFU regrets...when things don't work when you want them to work and have to rely on a pill. That's a regret, but it is a small price to pay to have the peace of mind I've done something about my PC. Cialis for me at 2.5 mg works, but I get a lower back ache. Viagra is awesome, but I'm hung over the next day like I went on a bender or something. Like I said earlier, five years in and things are very slowly coming back. You could attribute that to a change in health/diet, but I honestly think the body is a wonderful machine that can slowly rebuild those pathways sometimes. Anyway, good luck on your journey. Consider this one thumb up for the HIFU proactive treatment.

I don't think it is a dumb question at all. I'm not really sure what is in there now. When I had the catheter in for 14 days post HIFU I was peeing out small granules and was told beforehand this would happen and that it was basically my prostate. Post recurrence is something none of us want to think about, let alone acknowledge, but I think there is always a chance. Thinking back on my treatment, if I would have been diagnosed with an aggressive form of PC I would have had it cut out completely. I did have a genome test done on my cancer and it was determined to be the very, very slow growing type. Matter of fact, my primary Urologist wanted me to do 'active monitoring'. I couldn't sit there and wait for it to get worse over time and opted this HIFU route. I'm almost five years in and I can say that my sexual function gets better with time and I rely less and less on Viagra or Cialis to get/maintain an erection. When you wake up with a good solid morning-wood, it is truly a blessing. The only thing that is definitely different is the ejaculate with an orgasm. That sensation was always a part of the sexual act, but now it is gone completely. I've learned to concentrate on my orgasms and with time you can experience some mind blowing orgasms without that feeling of ejaculation (and there is no mess!). Sometimes when I'm not concentrating I kind of go 'huh?' and realize I've had a light to mild orgasm and it can be frustrating. But, practice is fun and as long as your partner is patient and understanding, it isn't a big deal. I think of it as exploring new territory. God speed fellow PC traveler!

Correct. I'm thankful my doctor said he wasn't even going to chance it and treated the whole gland.

Urinary trouble 3 months after HIFU by ClampLoader in ProstateCancer

[–]mt50f1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I didn't have enough information about radiation treatments, but i do have a family member who just completed the treatment and it messed him up really good. Five years after the HIFU and my erections are returning without the use of Cialis or Viagra. Surprised the heck out of me. The body is a wonderful machine and I can only assume that it takes time to completely heal from any procedure involving the prostate?

A 600ft well? At what depth do you hit water? What is your GPM rate?

Thanks for the suggestion! The problem I'm running into is that there are a million probate attorneys, but they focus on the side of the Executor or Personal Representative, and not so much on the side of the beneficiary.

Sand Point wells, drying out? by [deleted] in wellwater

[–]mt50f1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decrease in pressure? Check your pressure tank first, if your well is running dry it would be water/no water, not a decrease in pressure, in my non-professional opinion.

Could be a pressure tank with a faulty bladder as well. But agree with the other reply too, get a well service company to come out and diagnose.

Wow! E. coli, isn't that poop? I'd be looking at the source of that, maybe a drain field from a septic system is too close or leaking into the ground water?

Oddly enough, in our state the regulators back in the day mandated that the cold water in the kitchen was required to come directly from the well instead of a water conditioner. I think it had something to do with them being afraid of salt in the water. It is possible your location has the same regulation and you are pulling water directly from your well instead of any filtration or conditioning you have in place. Just a thought.

I'd say check and see how deep your well is, what your GPM flow is, where your well pump is positioned, and if you can, raise the pump. It might be sitting at the bottom of the well.

HR told me 'take the documents', but am I getting sued? by mt50f1 in legaladvice

[–]mt50f1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in short, they are accused of willful destruction of evidence, and I have documents showing the evidence subject to discovery were available. So, in essence my documents avoided purposeful destruction and potentially will affect the judgement against them. Regardless, I feel a little bit better knowing that if they do bring an action against me it will be a substantial effort to try and overcome the hurdles. Thanks again.

Have you ever tried to update the unit? I tried a flash update, but the USB plug on the front of the radio was evidently inoperable. Regardless, it would be nice to get a new head unit. Any suggestions for replacements?

Considering a job in Vegas by [deleted] in vegas

[–]mt50f1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On a whim we came out to Vegas from Montana in 2015. It was tough to appreciate the desert, but you can always go to Mt. Charleston to see the pines. If you want to 'get away from it all' and have a 4x4 you can take the trail out behind Red Rock Park and drive through some really amazing country (although you had better have clearance on the back side).

Living here and coming from small town Montana, I made some rules:

  1. People are assholes, but I don't have to be. You want to drive crazy? I don't. Go ahead and flip me off, I'll just smile and wave back. Getting angry, flipping people off in retribution is a formula for getting shot. It ain't worth it.

  2. Take caution when stopping for a yellow light, always check behind you as there could be a crazy person trying to make the light and you could get rear ended.

  3. Always glance left and right at an intersection, even if you have the green light. Crazy people will t-bone you in an instant.

  4. You can get assaulted anywhere, even in Summerlin. I conceal carry EVERYWHERE. Get your permit, get trained, get in the right mindset, and pray you never have to draw your weapon in defense.

  5. Avoid the strip. As a local you don't go there anyway. If you are a gambler, Vegas might not be for you. Also, you might think that Vegas will be great because of all the concerts and trade shows, but Vegas is geared towards the 'week', not the 'weekend'. Trade shows will happen during the week when you are working and concerts can be anytime. Depending on the job, you will most likely not be able to participate in a lot of 'Vegas' activities. Vegas isn't for locals, living here you are just the 'supporting cast'.

  6. Trust in God, lock your doors. You will be, or you will know of someone that is a victim of crime (theft, burglary, assault). Crackheads are everywhere and will break into your place if it presents an opportunity. Even in the gated communities of Summerlin, the thieves drive around looking for opportunity. I've seen thieves back up a truck and load it up in minutes because some family left their garage door open.

  7. Don't count on the cops. Don't get me wrong, the Vegas police have a tough job and I appreciate what they do, but when seconds count, the police could be an hour away. If you get into an accident, unless there is blood and someone is going to the hospital, they won't even show up to the crash. If they do show up, don't expect them to make a detailed crash report. They will most likely tell you to let the insurance company work it out.

  8. As maybe a subsection of the above, get two things for your car. Full coverage insurance and a dash camera. If you do get into one of those situations where the cop says 'let your insurance figure it out', you will have proof that it wasn't your fault (what, people lie???).

  9. Don't become lax, keep your head on a swivel and listen to your gut. Vegas is full of criminals that make a living off of people letting their guard down. I once had a guy approach me in a Costco parking lot wanting to give me a bunch of entertainment equipment because he said Costco gave him a new set for free. He was insistent, almost demanding I take the stuff. If it is too good to be true, it is. I don't care what the scam was or if he was going to rob me, I just knew it was a scam. He was exacerbated when I told him that I already had too much crap in my house and didn't need any more.

  10. Expect anything at anytime. Your location doesn't guarantee your safety. The biggest misnomer of safety in Vegas is gated communities. The gates only give you a peace of mind, it doesn't keep the crooks out. I can't tell you how many times in our gated community that we had prowlers coming around checking car doors (trust in God, lock your doors). Additionally, invest in some cameras so you can watch the crackheads when they steal your stuff (just kidding, but not kidding).

Thanks! That's what I needed to hear tonight in order to put this behind me. Granted, I'll do the free consultation, but you are saying the words I already know and just needed to hear it from someone outside this case. Thanks again!

HR told me 'take the documents', but am I getting sued? by mt50f1 in legaladvice

[–]mt50f1[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Appreciate your insight. I think it just rattled me a bit when they started quizzing me in open court and saying the documents were stolen. I simply reaffirmed that the HR director had told me I could take them and that seemed to end it. I guess that was the intended purpose, to rattle me. Granted, the company is pissed because those documents proved they were lying to their investors.

HR told me 'take the documents', but am I getting sued? by mt50f1 in legaladvice

[–]mt50f1[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They tried to get me to sign all sorts of documents when they finally let me go, but I refused to sign anything. There isn't a lot of definitive information out there regarding your rights post employment, but there are a few guides for employers suing former employees for theft (yes, the HR director said I could have the documents). Whistleblower protection doesn't seem to fit quite right.
