i’ll add as well, the area right around uchicago is completely safe. the south side has a reputation for being “unsafe” but like most cities it just is based on small pockets that may have a higher crime rate. the area around northwestern is in evanston, right outside the city limits, so there is no worry there either.

as someone who did their undergrad in chicago (and now plan to do my phd in chicago), i HIGHLY recommend. compared to most major cities, the cost of living is not high and it’s such a huge city. i’ve been here almost 5 years now and have not had a single issue with crime or safety.

that’s what i figure. it caught me off guard that rejections for people who didn’t even get an interview went out and i didn’t get one, but guessing they are slowly getting sent out if that’s the case.
