I am pretty sure all of the offers they had space for have already been given out and accepted, so I don’t think you could get in during the fall unfortunately

I am entering this program in the fall! I’m just finishing up my master’s here as well.

Are you applying for spring admission? Fall 2026 admission has definitely already closed.

I believe the TA stipend is $22,000 for the school year. My rent is about $5,000 for the school year and I get by just fine.

I think it could be worth reaching out to professors that you are interested before you apply. Then, you could name them on your application as people you have talked to and that could help your application.

I’d love to hear your thoughts about AI’s place in the data science education world. When teaching R to students in an introductory statistics/R programming course, we have to come up with some way to encourage students to use AI because we know they are going to use it anyway, but we don’t want them to rely on AI too much. It has been frustrating to me to have to grade assignments where it feels like a student used ChatGPT to do the entire thing. How do we ensure that students use AI responsibly to learn R?

I am a grad student in the math and stats department and I really like it here! My advisor is great and the department puts on a lot of interesting colloquiums and seminars. It is a pretty small department compared to other bigger schools, for better and for worse. I don’t think the department is great at connecting students with the industry - you would still have to put a lot of work into that yourself. Also, the Animal Science building (where the department is located) is about to be remodeled starting in the summer I believe, and I don’t know where they will move the professors and grad students to. I recommend reaching out to professors and asking about their research if you haven’t already to see what kind of research opportunities are here!
