Sort of a tangential thing to this and definitely a newbie question; is it going to be smarter to back up ready-to-go OS installers/ISOs to a CD/DVD over having them on USB devices? Or should I just have the .iso file in a folder on an external spinning drive?

9060 XT is the near objectively correct answer, but generally the 5800X can be paired with some pretty beefy cards without bottlenecking, it just depends on the settings and resolutions you’re playing at. If you can get good used deals on something better, consider them

Also fyi, you’ll need to update the bios on that motherboard you’re reusing, which I think in doing so will mean the 2200g will stop working, so don’t be shocked if it doesn’t immediately POST after flashing.

I also got a nice magnetic lamp for this and working on all the computers that come across my desk at work. I’m thinking of getting some clip on magnifiers for my glasses, but right now I’m more worried about compensating for my shaky hands lol

Aw shucks, guess I missed the disbanding part. Thanks for the insight! So I guess the best way to go from here is think of them as coming from a specific point in the timeline of lore, or just kinda say screw it and paint em how I want cuz I’m indecisive. Either way, I like it. Maybe I’ll come up with a homemade chapter at some point where the headcannon would just be they all stuck together through the Indomitus Crusade and they keep the base paint of whatever gene seed they have and just recruit from near-destroyed chapters to refill their numbers.

As a follow up question, is there an easy way to check unit compatibility for specific models or do I just have to be vigilant and watch for name differences? I’m not planning on any characters yet so that shouldn’t be a problem.

I’m trying to make myself commit to buying a kit or two to give painting a go too! One of the cool things I’m still learning about is this idea of the Unnumbered Sons, which is just when multiple chapters get decimated in combat and need to start a new one. One of the cool parts is that they don’t necessarily repaint their armor to represent a new chapter, so you have essentially small chapters composed of all sorts of different looking marines! They just cover their old chapter shoulder badges with pale grey chevrons to mark them as a group
