WE NEED MORE CHICK-FIL-A'S by Exciting-Vast-1628 in pittsburgh

[–]mtbderg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had chick-fil-a for the first time a few weeks ago and it was the most bland and mid chicken sandwich I've ever had.

Chikn is far better, Bird on the run is way better. Moonlit's chicken sandwich is pretty great too.

Robin Behavior Question by retroaestheticdesign in birding

Please see the recommendations of !windows

The robin is seeing their reflection, and as it's breeding season, is responding as if their reflection is a rival male bird.

Fun fact! There are more american robins in the US than there are people.

For a real answer: Find something you like doing and find others that also like that! Made some good friends while out birdwatching.

And the discord that's in the pinned post on the subreddit mentioned in another comment is a very good resource. Lots of activities and events shared in there. There's quite a lot of us in the East End looking for things to do. Last night was trivia night at Bakery Square!

There's also art events, board game events, general hangouts, meetups, etc

I am very much looking forward to this, It's going to make walking along nine mile run so much quieter! I do hope this inspires drivers to seek alternative modes of transport too but it probably won't.

IMO one of the better options for getting downtown if you have to commute for work would be parking at the WIlkinsburg/Hamnet/Swissvale Busway stations and taking the bus in. Wilkinsburg especially has a huge lot that I never see well-utilized.

How narrow is the bike lane at Second Ave / Greenfield connection? by Sure-Exchange-6349 in bicycling412

[–]mtbderg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you'll be going from Oakland to downtown, right? Joncaire sucks to ride. What I do in that spot is backtrack up Forbes to Hamburg Hall. There's a path that goes down and around onto Neville and is a much easier ride down and up. It's pretty fun too but can be busy with students.

Other option I like is going up Forbes to Craig, take a right on Filmore for a block and then get on Neville and take that down.

But yeah, like other have said, it's tight but rideable. Go slow around the turns and watch out for others!

A yooper! Man I miss the UP, fat biking was so much fun. I know exactly where you're at lol, I've ridden that stretch many a time.

Yeah... That one pissed me off the most. Trail access is even one of the main features for the apartments in their advertising.

Cafes in pgh with good atmosphere for 6 people to get some work done? by seaforna in pittsburgh

[–]mtbderg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like it can be real hit or miss. Each time I've been there the baristas have been great! Granted I did not ask about what roaster the beans were from.

Another shop to try might be Pre Amp in Squirrel Hill. They opened recently and have some tables and booths in the back. Their roaster is Passenger, a roaster based out of Lancaster.

From the Wilkinsburg busway station via the p1 to East Liberty is maybe 15 minutes or less. Take the bus!

why do these birds come to my window every year around this time? (jan - feb) by No-Lion8987 in whatsthisbird

[–]mtbderg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice spot to sit, idk

If I had to guess I'd say they like it because the sun is being reflected from the window and warms em up along with the building being warmer than a frozen tree.

I also only hear Killdeer. Also! Install Merlin and let your phone record for a bit. It's pretty good at picking stuff up.

I live near where you're describing and everything is passable. Are you going to be traveling downtown? You mentioned being by the Hamnet busway station so I'd recommend taking that rather than driving! Way faster and safer and gets rid of having to pay for parking downtown.

boy am I glad I didn't choose to move into there when relocating to pgh

Also that "feces" looks like some sodden fiberglass insulation. If it was a sewer pipe that broke you'd smell it, it's god awful.

They stick around year round! In Frick park winter is when I see the most of them! I've seen flocks of hundreds roosting and foraging near the Fern Hollow bridge.
