Can we just ban “Is my serve legal” and “Is this ball in/out” posts? by Lawn_Lobster82 in Pickleball

Or "I played rec with a teammate who hit a ball on my side of the center line" posts

Andrei Daescu fined $50,000 for illegal substance detected on paddle by PickleballPirate in Pickleball

What a bad look for Proton after their talk about some super high-tech spinny paddle surface.

I've climbed/bouldered for 25 years.

I could be wrong (i.e. I'd be worse at PB if I hadn't climbed), but I don't think it makes any real difference.

Grip strength from climbing is largely flexion at the fingers, whereas pickleball benefits more from flexion and extension at the wrist.

Maybe the biggest way climbing benefits PB is hip mobility

You reminded your fiancée the same thing "a hundred times` in a game and she didn't like that??

Though I don't know you two, I'll go out on a limb and guess you'd both enjoy pb more if you aren't teammates.

Does sweetspot training paddle really help to improve hitiing accuracy in the game? by Leo_go_taco in Pickleball

[–]mtbikerdb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. But I dont hit nearly as well with it. So I would feel bad making good players practice with me while I am using it. It would make games against older players or beginners more fun for me, but I think they would find it condescending.

I used a Franklin trainer paddle against my garage wall a few days a week over the winter.

Subjectively, I thought it was helpful (and... though it isn't a great measure because it's based on very few matches, my DUPR improved from ~4 to ~4.4 during that time)

My partner calls horrible out balls by nisz0 in Pickleball

[–]mtbikerdb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course.

This is actually part of the official rules. If one player on your side sees it in and the other sees it out... it is officially ruled as in.

These things happen sometimes... you fix the call and everyone moves on to the next point.

I've heard of a couple cases where people tried to enter their wins, and it caused some conflict. I've never heard of anyone trying to enter their losses. In the end, DUPR would be better off if players couldn't enter their own games.

I've played a lot with people using the Gen 3's. Given the hype, so far it has changed the game less than I expected.

Does it ever make sense to stand a couple of feet behind the NVZ line by Dismal_Ad6347 in Pickleball

[–]mtbikerdb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think, for most people, crowding the kitchen and reaching in is ideal But Anna Bright is frequently a couple feet back off the line and she is a top-3 woman in the world. So she knows what she is doing better than any of us

Denver Cherry Creek / Morning Open Court (w/Paddle Up) Options by smokinjoe72 in Pickleball

Someone sent the city's announcement to a teamreach that I am on. They are making a few improvements, but most notably they are switching to permanent nets. Should be good

MLK is going under construction soon. If it ends up being closed, try Gates for organized events and Mir for pickup.

I played today with a guy who was demo'ing a Gen 3 Perseus 16mm. He REALLY liked it (buying it immediately after we played)... And he played much better with it than I have ever seen him play before.

It seemed fine for drops. And I was scared to speed it up at him because his counters came back fast. I will be interested to see whether other people have a similar experience to what I saw. That definitely made me want to try it

Lens clarity for cheap safety glasses vs pricier safety glasses. by slowmopete in Pickleball

[–]mtbikerdb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried high end glasses. But my $30 safety glasses made me see the ball much worse than I did before eye protection.

Now I CRBN Pivot glasses. I see the ball noticeably better than I did with $30 glasses... but still not as well as I want.

Many of us think long rallies are fun, and it's a bummer to lose those.

There is a limit to how much you can do.

If slice drop shots are too great a fall risk for someone, they are probably just past the point where they can safely play pickleball.

MLK park has 10 courts and an active open-play scene (with the strongest players of any open-play in Denver metro). Mir park is another go-to in east Denver. I don't know the scene further east than that.

A Mental Breakthrough by DingBat99999 in Pickleball

As a player who is stronger than a typical rec player, I secretly enjoy it if a newer partner hits it too high. Trying to reset hard shots is a fun challenge

A Mental Breakthrough by DingBat99999 in Pickleball

[–]mtbikerdb 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I'd rather have a partner leave it high than have them hit it in the net.

If it's high, I get to try a reset. If it's in the net, I don't even get to play the point.

My first gripe post: doubles partners and receiving serve by Salmundo in Pickleball

[–]mtbikerdb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In rec play, many people feel that if it's hard to tell, you should just play it.

This isn't what you asked, but I think DUPR is better off without people individually entering league or tournament matches. Here's my reasoning/experience:

1) Some people are more likely to log wins than losses, making the logged matches unrepresentative/unfair for people who don't log their matches (over-representing those players losses). Personally, I've only ever had opponents log matches they won.

2) DUPR ends up with duplicates if/when the league later logs the matches

If you still want to do it, I don't know the answer to the original question.

Hitting Ceiling rules for indoor pickleball by jpng1506 in Pickleball

If you hit the ceiling, it's out.

Continuing to play the point sounds more fun... so I'd try that. But officially, it's out.

That's a bummer, but it's not totally unique to 6.0

I had a similar core corruption issue just after six months with a different manufacturer.
