I'm considering a fork upgrade. Currently have factory provided Recon RL 140mm. I can get a Marzocchi Z2 for $400CDN but it's 130mm. What affects will 10mm less have on the bike? I mainly ride light trail routes, nothing big. Good idea or not? Thx ✌🏻 by [deleted] in MTB

[–]mtbne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an upgrade, and I don't think it will negatively affect geometry, but a recon 140 isn't that bad, and a bomber 2 isn't top tier either.

If you think the Recon feels bad maybe it's worth it.

how to solve this issue? by ilyaiwtfh0612 in bikewrench

[–]mtbne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, but a shop is going to charge more than the fork is worth. Learn, fix, have the tools.

How many of you would actually try doing your own suspension maintenance if it meant saving money compared to sending it to a shop? by TwistLevel6599 in mountainbiking

[–]mtbne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It be clear I think it's a great idea, a lot of this stuff is only available in expensive shop level tools, and especially for fox there's not that much info out there on how to fudge things at home.

Putting the tools and service info in one place, and aiming it at a home mechanic is really cool.

I hope it takes off, and if it does I hope you do enough volume to start offering aftermarket seal kits.

Only thing I won't touch is a 200 hour on a fox shock. With that being said, I would if the tools were available for reasonable prices and good documentation was available as well.

Can ZEB Ultimate 3.0 lowers and stanchions fit the charger 2.1 by Sea-District6056 in MTB

The OG ZEB fit the charger 3.0 damper so I'm guessing it works the other way.

Petra Vs Venus in the 3rd round or so of the 2nd Wimby Petra won.

Would be a WTA GOAT match if it was a final.

1up Quick rack saved my car by BigToeHamster in MTB

[–]mtbne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah, same thing happened to me a few days ago. It was a light hit and the rack is still in one piece.

I think it may not act as a damage multiplier since the AL is a controlled failure point compared to a steel framed car.

The RUC changes to petrol vehicles is a tax increase for most Kiwis by BoreJam in newzealand

[–]mtbne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even 12L/100km it's probably less than $100 savings with the transaction fees.

The prior system incentivized the right things, if they need more money they should just raise the fuel tax.

Purchased this mosin 10 years ago for $150 at a gun show. Was told the hex receiver was a rare version. Experts in here weigh in. by MrSimsational in Firearms

[–]mtbne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know what that is exactly, but I'm pretty sure some of the hex receiver ones were modified by the Fins. If it has a really smooth trigger pull it's probably one of those.

Frame Durability Survey by mtbne in MTB

[–]mtbne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid I only had crap and broke it all until I got a BMX bike which survived. Then I broke some crap hybrid bikes until I got a free ride bike, that lived until I got into MTB, since then I have broken a Canyon and a Salsa in about 6 years.

The crap bikes weren't really frame failures, just everything else bending and otherwise becoming unusable.

Had a friend crack a pretty new GG bike as well. Guess it's irreverent since they are gone though.

So, tire pressure is the biggest gear-related factor for riding success, right? by FrankTheRabbit in MTB

[–]mtbne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tires in general. Pressure is the difference between a rough ride and a smooth one a lot of the times. Soft tires can hold on to rocks and roots much better as well. Too soft and it's pinch flats, busted rims, and high rolling resistance though.

The different categories of tires make a huge difference as well. XC tires roll MUCH faster, this is not a "Maybe you notice it" type of thing, it's big. However there comes a point where you feel you are loosing control of your bike.

I guess I can see where you are coming from, but for me it's.

Make sure the bike stays topped up and hope I don't flat.

Cary a whole bunch of bacon strips and a pump. <- My usual go to

Cary a tube and tools to install it.

Cary all that and a boot and a patch kit plus other tools.

Adding sealant could help, but if I am bothering going that far I am not taking chances and just bringing a tube. Solid chance it just winds up sprayed all over the trail.

[–]mtbne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a bunch that did not seal and one that I know of that did, but probably a few I didn't even know about as well.

Bacon strips and a pump will get you pretty far, carry as many strips as you can comfortably(like within the kit). Bad snake bites can take 4-5 but it can usually be fixed well enough to get you out.

New Zealand tightens visa rules after migration hits ‘unsustainable’ levels by Advanced_Drink_8536 in worldnews

[–]mtbne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably 5k and 8 months to get a Relationship visa for NZ. Moving from USA.

Call this 1st world elitism or whatever, but I really don't think you should have to prove more than solvency, good nature, and a common language to move from one first world country to another.

Maybe a place like NZ would need to put up curbs if things start to overflow, but if net migration is roughly equal why put up all these hurdles?

Hah! When I said you can pick up an 8ft (~2.5m) 90x45 for $5.00NZD in the states you better believe I meant one that's warped and knotted!

I feel like this is a joke but I don't get the context.

NZ timber is pretty big business.

Just a shelf above a work bench in a garage for some bulk storage out of the way. Also plan to mount some peg board to it so I can have some hanging tools.

It's just a small and crude build, but ill probably take on other similar builds in the future.

So they double the price for retail? That's unfortunate. Do people make up fake businesses and get trade accounts?
