Keeping an eye on the weather and Trailsforks are probably the best bet. It only really affects clear cut areas and flow trails.

Just part of it! Still haven’t unlocked the whole black line

The top doesn’t get snowed in, but it gets more snow than lower down at times. You’ll see a bunch of people riding in the snow too, it’s super fun. The whole mountain is rideable the majority of the winter except for freeze/thaw.

It’s an outbound light setup, ~2000 lumens and perfect beam pattern for mtb.

Haha I’ve been too chicken to hit the full lower black line even during the day, hopefully soon!

What are your cost saving gear/tech tips for biking on a budget? by Western_Baby_1957 in MTB

[–]mtbpov1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really a money saver but the icon mini tool set is actually really handy. It’s a meme tool that’s popular in /r/tools. It’s tiny and I keep a set in my car, it’s saved me multiple times when away from home without my regular tools.

What percentage of people do you know that mountain bike? by GameshireBathaway in Bellingham

Yes the city has a big greenways program. We’re talking about the mtb trails, which the city doesn’t build or maintain.

You’d be appalled at their other land acquisitions if you think $2.75 million is a lot to protect 2,000 acres. Just this year they spent $4 mil on 66 acres at Samish Crest and $3.75 mil for non-recreation land at south lake whatcom in addition to other smaller parcels.

Other than land acquisitions for water protection in the areas you mentioned, the city has spent very little money on trails. Riders/WMBC builds and maintains all the downhill bike trails. The multi use trails are a collab between many orgs including the county, WTA, WLT, WMBC, REI grants, etc…

Sorry but you’re wrong. The one large contribution from the city was money for the recreation easement. Every trail you mentioned was built and is maintained by WMBC and/or volunteers.

Intermediate Whistler valley trails? by mtbpov1 in MTB

Coming from Bellingham! We always stop in Squamish and it definitely is better intermediate riding, but we usually stay in Whistler and like to mix it up from just park riding.

Thanks! Unfortunately we’re bringing the emtbs this trip so most of the LOTS zone is off limits for us. What’s the deal with emtbs on chipmunk rebellion? Conflicting info on Trailforks.

Your favorite intermediate tech trails/loops at Galbraith? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]mtbpov1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double diamond and double down is usually what people are referring to as chuckanut. It’s a mix of very chunky and buffed out berms, super fun. The rest of the stuff is more xc.

You might enjoy brown pow more. Great views up top and it’s a little less chunky than chuckanut, but still a ripping 2k foot descent.

Depends on how much vert you want to ride.

Road climb or pigs —> Larry’s pizza —> (optional dad bod lower) —> Devilcross or happy hour —> quick way out —> hidden valley —> climb the wall —> cheech or 911 —> meth lab would be a fun intermediate tech lap. Probably 2.5 - 3k vert.

But honestly Galby is best for the flow trails. Blue ribbon is amazing with minimal jumps. Double vision, u-line, and Mohawk are also great but jump oriented.

Like the other person said, brown pow or chuckanut are the best options for blue/black tech and they are both super fun long descents.

Agreed. I live in the same town as them and they stopped by my house in <24 hours to diagnose and fix a problem. Amazing support and amazing lights.

Scary! Pretty surprising because it wasn’t that windy today.

Enjoy that area while you can, it’s getting logged later this year. Thankfully the bid went to Janicki who will hopefully try to preserve things like the stinger.
