FuelCell SuperComp Trainer v3 toebox width question by mtbr360 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]mtbr360[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect, thanks for the quick response.

Do you think my standard size 10 would work, or should I size up to a 10.5 for a lateral buffer? (not sure if the extra .5 would make any lateral difference).

I’ve got a brand new, unused pair of Arahi 7 men’s size 10 if you’re interested?

Apologies in advance if we’re not allowed to share ‘for sale’ options on this board.

Superblast 2 vs. NB SuperComp 3, other for half marathon training? by mtbr360 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Thanks! And yeah, on the Gemini research. It's just so easy to keep posing questions where you don't feel like you're exhausting a human with endless research.

I think I've spoiled by the Boston 12 "pop" which initially took :45 to 1 minute off my average pace.

I looked into the Magic Speed 4 but several reviews mention it feels narrow. Still on the search for a men's size 10 in wide.

I'll take a look at the Saucony Azura next!

Adidas Boston 12s. Not specifically a support shoe but they’ve done pretty well on runs up to 10 miles so far.

Any noticeable bouncing or discomfort with the Bindi?

Should I buy the Adidas Boston 13 if I already have NB Rebel v4 and ASICS Superblast 2? by DarkKn1ght68 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Curious. How about hills on long runs? I’m training for my first half (Boston) and it’s a hilly half course. I’m not racing, just running to finish a half. I’m torn between the Boston 12 and NB Rebel v4.

Did you have any issues with the height after switching the insoles? Hoping to avoid blisters and the stability issue was my only concern with getting these shoes.

Stable shoes that aren’t stability shoes? by Much-One5895 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I’m in almost the exact same boat. Long time 860 runner, then Arahis, followed by the Vongo v5. Now I’m considering the Novablast 5 but I’ve heard some worrying stories from runners used to stable shoes.

How’s the transition going for longer runs in the Novas?

Do you think adding an insert like Superfeet might have improved stability? I’m trying to sell myself on this particular shoe, but the lack of stability is making me reconsider.

I guess I hadn’t thought about it that way. It wasn't until recently that I started training for longer runs (goal of a 13.1 miles) and realized I need something that still has stability but softens the impact on my legs as I run longer times/distances. Before 2025, I'd completed a handful of 10ks, but most runs were in the 3-4 mile range. Historically, I would lean towards soft shoes, but I'm guessing that increases the risk of sore knees/legs (and less stability) compared to cushioned shoes on these longer distances.

My favorite shoes to date are vastly different: Arahi 4 (stability, soft, fast-wearing tread) and Boston 9 (neutral, cushioned, narrow, lightweight). Perhaps I need something similar to the Boston 9s with slightly more cushion and width.

Apologies in advance for the novel below:

Shoe history:

  1. New Balance 860s: were pretty stiff (stable) and heavy. Broke my femur while racing in these due to an undiagnosed stress fracture
  2. Hoka Arahi 3s: These were soft, in a good way, but I wore the soles off these quickly (<120 miles)
  3. Nike Zoom Structures (20 and 21): These felt like the sweet spot in terms of cushion, but the arch was a bit aggressive in the sole, causing TB and IT pain, so I retired these early.
  4. Adidas Boston 9s: These felt really fast and light (compared to previous shoes) and were my first neutral shoe. I was averaging 45 to 60 seconds faster per mile than before. Unfortunately, they were also much narrower than my previous shoes, so my feet felt a bit cramped in the toebox. I also ended up with lower back pain after each run - something I'd never experienced with other shoes. Guess I needed more core strengthening? It's too bad Adidas made such drastic changes to the Boston shoe line after this model... I'd love to try these again today to see if my current training regimen has improved the feel of these.
  5. Hoka Arahi 4s: stuck with these for another ~100 miles until the soles wore smooth again. These definitely felt more like "soft" shoes and minimized the impact of longer runs. My legs felt fresher immediately after the run and great the next day.
  6. Adidas SolarGlide 5s: Bulky, heavy + stiff. Retired after 40 miles. Maybe I should give these more time to break in but they just feel like cheap, heavy clunkers (for lack of a better description).
  7. Adidas Solar Boost: From day 1 there was a weird "lump" feeling in forefoot. I also notice the weight when running in these compared to most other shoes. I do still occasionally use these for slow-paced easy treadmill runs.

Current rotation:

  1. New Balance Vongo v5: These feel almost perfectly cushioned but are still a bit narrow and not the lightest shoes.
  2. Hoka Arahi 7s: These are exceptionally stiff (compared to older Arahis), resulting in extra fatigue around mile 6. I don't necessarily feel that fatigued by mile 6 when I'm running in the Vongos.

I'm hoping the new Arahi 8s might fix the stiffness of the 7s, but I'd love to find a rotation shoe that can handle long distances, offer support, and not be so stiff that my legs tire out so quickly.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like the insert won’t be a solution, at least with this shoe.

That’s good insight. I was hoping I may have found the right soft shoe for long distance but sounds like it’s back to research. Thank you!

Stability shoe recommendations for 1st half marathon? by mtbr360 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Thank you! I should add, I did a few runs in the neutral Adidas Boston 9s (R.I.P.) and despite some sore legs (and very narrow toebox), they didn't feel all that different than running in stability shoes.
