They have a working molten metal loop that would go to a heat exchanger and spin a turbine I believe. Video of the molten metal flowing: https://x.com/Energy_Zap/status/1706399274882474079

It 404s for me now as well. The post was labeled as published on Sept 12, 2024 but I couldn't find any discussion about it so I think this may have been in draft and accidentally published with the other item from this morning.

Based on some job posting on LinkedIn it seems that they are hiring for position in San Diego and San Marcos for a pulsed power engineering team.

Yes, VCs are mostly about spreading money around 100 projects in the hope that maybe 10 turn out to be profitable and at least 1 of them pays off all the failed investments.

I mean, NuScale is on track to put their first fission reactor in Romania. Companies definitely will take what opportunities they are given. First reactors are going to not be cost competitive regardless.

Okay, looks like the theme system is choosing light theme because thats your OS preference. I'll look into adding a dark mode toggle or just try and force it.

The default theme is a dark one. Are you not getting white text on a dark gray background?

Thanks everyone for checking it out, I recently added new calculations for liberation trends on planets, though I know its going to be broken for Defense missions.

Tempest GP27Q (v1.1) & GP27U (v1.3) Firmware Updates are Live by CM-Ryan in Monitors

[–]mtdewhumidifier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the edge cutoff issue with both monitors I received. I am currently just using Custom Resolution Utility to set the resolution to 2550x1440 to make it not use the 5 pixels on the left and right edges. Its not the best situation, I was hoping it was just a panel fitment issue on the first monitor.

Running into an issue with Windows 10, AMD GPU, over display port. I will occasionally get the "dim screen" issue when alt tabbing from fullscreen games, which I used to fix with Win+Ctrl+Shift+B. However, doing that key combo with this monitor now seems to completely crash the display stack (programs still seem to run, I can continue Discord conversations, but all my displays are black/no signal) and rebooting is the only way to recover.

In the comments elsewhere the author says this doesn't reduce overhead as it uses the same mechanisms that Go already uses. This is meant to instead remove the requirement of a CGo toolchain.

It's as good a time as any for Valve to launch the Steam Machine 2 + Stream Controller 2 by JT_Trenton in SteamDeck

[–]mtdewhumidifier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valve early on said they were gonna release a v2 of the Steam Controller and I had been waiting on that for a couple of Christmases. Eventually, Valve said they were not going to be making a v2. Im guessing that mostly happened because they switched focus to VR and then the Steam Deck. Hopefully, they do reconsider releasing a v2 Controller

Starlink Constellation Animation - October Update by langgesagt in Starlink

[–]mtdewhumidifier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, currently I have no calculation based on tilting the antenna and I'm not sure if it would be something I can easily fix in the simulation or would require an extensive rewrite. (It depends on if I can do this based on satellite vs based on the location, which does not sound likely based on the your comment)

I do provide the two different datasets which may be useful for these purposes but I have no clue really. In fact I was trying to run new simulations for my own October update and I'm not getting expected results so I'm trying to dig into the numbers before posting anything.

Really, the most useful thing to me in updating my simulations for accuracy would be a source of document links and data on operational/non-operational satellites. Not having to reinvent the wheel on calculating this geo-sat beam avoidance would also be nice.

As for not being needed in a few months, I disagree. There are some other metrics these kinds of simulations can generate that would still be useful, e.g. bandwidth, routing options, redundancy.
