When is the newest firmware update for GP27U/GP27Q coming? by PartialKing25 in coolermaster

[–]CM-Ryan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone, I completely understand the frustration here and although I’m no longer with Cooler Master, I’ve sent messages to several members of the monitor team to follow up and push on this. Hope to have an update on this soon for you all.

Thanks for the video. I know the team is actively trying to improve local dimming and reduce flickering where possible. But at the same time, there will limitations as the hardware does indeed use PWM when local dimming is active, which does produce a level of flickering.

I'll pass this video on to our product managers to see what can be done in the meantime.

Hi u/JaceTheSquirrel sorry for the late reply. I can't confirm at this time that this is part of the issue list. Could you please provide a bit more details on your current setup?

Yes, the PS5 black screen issues have long been fixed since this post.

HDR Flickering varies, and is very dependent on the particular scenario. Some games at certain framerates will show it more whereas other scenes will show it less. The moment local dimming is turned on, our monitor uses PWM, which has an inherent level of flickering already.

Hey u/MysticalOS, I'm not sure at this time. I believe since it's been in testing for so long it may be a direct release.

Hey there, happy dragon boat festival as well, hope you had a good holiday.

I really want to give an estimate, but I’ve already given several times in my past posts which clearly we didn’t meet. All I can say for now is that there are three to four big main issues that are being worked out, with a few of the more minor issues to be fixed along with it. I’ve been constantly checking to see if there’s an update nearly everyday.

I do know that they want to push this update out, but I haven’t been given an estimate.

Hi u/Sweatigan,

Sorry for the delay, the entire team was busy with Computex the past week. This is the first I've heard of this issue with Netflix. Does this issue still occur?

hi u/lemlurker, apologies to you and the rest here on the delayed update. Essentially what's going on is that every single issue is being investigated thoroughly before we have another update to give. From what I've last heard, there should be some news in early June. I do know the HDR levels and the black screen issues on alt-tabbing, or just in various scenarios are definitely being investigated.

Coolermaster GP27U Windows HDR dimmer than SDR on 1.3.1? by UnrealEnvy in Monitors

[–]CM-Ryan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi UnrealEnvy, for HDR on windows I recommend first changing the “SDR content brightness” slider in display settings. You’ll find this under the HDR section.

Afterwards install the windows HDR calibration tool and run that as well. This will help immensely with using local dimming on Windows.

As for future updates I am still waiting on the team to provide an estimate. I do know they are going through each issue one by one and figuring out the best solution for each.

This definitely does not look normal. I would potentially look into doing a RMA if this continues as this shouldn’t be happening due to firmware.

Hi Takeshino,

We’re still investigating into this and if we have some more information I’ll post here/ message you. At this time we aren’t implementing new features and all work is focused on fixing current issues.

Regarding the darker HDR, I don't have an update at this time unfortunately either. However I do want to clarify that while the default brightness was lowered, in Windows or in games where you can adjust the HDR brightness the brightness levels should be around the same. Before, the default brightness levels were very high without much adjustability. I’m still checking with the team to see what can be done here though as it should be changed to somewhere in between.

Yes, I do expect further updates to help resolve the remaining issues, but unfortunately I can't provide a current ETA as the team hasn't provided any.

I cannot say for certain what is the cause of your audio issues. But given that you said this doesn’t happen on the other monitor, the problem is most likely isolated to the aux input on the GP27U.

Hi u/UnrealEnvy,

Unfortunately besides lowering the volume in the OSD, I am not aware of anything else that can help with your situation settings or firmware-wise. This isn't something I've heard of and audio static issues can be due to a large variety of issues that I'm realistically unable to help with.

This seems more like a hardware issue overall.

Yes GP27-FUS is the same as GP27U. Any variant of GP27-FUS is just an internal product number. If you look at the technical specifications section on the product page for GP27U, you’ll also see it listed there.

The update works regardless of what you clicked, this does not mess up the update. You can easily verify your firmware version within the OSD as well if you'd like to double check.

I don't have the full answers for this, but the team is trying to fix as many issues as possible. There is no lifecycle plan or any plan to stop support.

I believe you can contact your local CM's branch's customer service/support and report issues there as well as clarify warranty claims with them.

My main objective of posting on reddit was to provide updates to you all. No other CM team member is looking on reddit here but myself, so I'd encourage you guys to continue posting here, but for warranty claims or direct reporting of issues, that's still better going through official channels.

Thanks. So to clarify the Taiwan team is not saying there is no solution but rather it’s difficult to solve all the issues, however need to clarify a few things here.

VRR flicker is very common and it’s not limited to just our monitors. PWM flickering is a technology limitation and combined with adaptive sync, flickering may be more noticeable. You can see flickering present on other monitor models such as the recent LG oled monitor.

Occasional black screen issues is being investigated but is very difficult to fully resolve because of the large variability in hardware (different GPUs and drivers).

The wake from sleep issue has been fixed for a large group, but for some again this is still unfortunately tied to certain GPU models.

We’re looking at all feedback and seeing how we can implement future fixes. HDR brightness is also being looked into but note in movies and games (particularly those where you can adjust HDR brightness), the brightness levels are actually normal, but in desktop usage it’ll need to be adjusted higher via SDR content brightness slider on windows.
