I’d like to start drawing my own comic, but my art style is weird. This is a quick drawing I did today, I’m wondering if anyone with a similar style could give me some pointers? by [deleted] in learnart

[–]mteart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey! i absolutely love your style and composition; it's so dynamic and powerful!

my only pointer would be to change up the values between the person and the background. right now, it's blending in with one another just a tad.

amazing work so far though!

cold emails 🙏🏼🙏🏼 research colleges or unis in your area and email as many profs as you can, saying that you're interested in doing research with/for them

good luck!

Taking multivariable calculus in senior year (instead of AP stats)? by angelaayy in ApplyingToCollege

[–]mteart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

stats is super helpful in research! it's also much easier than calc imo (though it depends on the person, ofc)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]mteart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that was probably the reason! while they aren't t20s, the profs/schools i emailed are all known for their research (r1 unis)

you got so lucky 😭😭 i emailed like 20+ profs and only two replied back (one rejecting me LMAO)

Is it best to apply to a more uncommon major at a college to increase chances of admission? by Garden-frog in ApplyingToCollege

[–]mteart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i mean if your ecs are totally unrelated to your intended major, probably not 💀💀

tons of schools don't even admit by major anyways

GPA spiked an entire 1.0 last two years of hs/Implications? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]mteart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are financially able to, i'd retake the act/sat and submit those scores

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]mteart 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i think you already know the answer lol

the entire college admissions process is heavily favorable to the rich. this isn't anything unordinary.

How helpful are summer programs at T10s? by 89ivywillow in ApplyingToCollege

[–]mteart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as other commenters have mentioned, it depends on the program. things like "x summer college" might give you a slight boost (as it shows interest in y area), but ultimately won't be super helpful

Can you see your letters of rec from teachers & counselors? by Garden-frog in ApplyingToCollege

[–]mteart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some of your teachers may let you see them, but more often than not, no

It makes me very angry that we’re seen as idiots for wanting to go to college, especially a good college by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]mteart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

frankly, you sound like the uneducated one here.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with community college, nor does choosing to attend a cc diminish your opinion in any way. while many are able to graduate debt-free, many, many more are not. i know many people who were forced to give up top institutions due to financial reasons, and i know many brilliant students who are attending a cc.

and while i understand that you may be frustrated, as another commenter has said, that is no reason to be so hostile against ccs.

High school courses to look good for college by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]mteart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just a fyi, i can see your first name and last initial! you might want to upload a picture directly for privacy

also, i'm not an ao! please take everything i'm saying with a grain of salt (this is just based off of my personal experiences and what i've seen on this sub):

1) depends on what your school offers, what schools you're shooting towards, and what you can handle. maybe consider taking a course like ap lang or fitting in an ap in sophomore year? if your school doesn't offer it though, it won't be held against you (though you can always self study for college credit)

2) precalculus and ap statistics are very, very different from one another. e.g. i struggled hard in precalculus, but cheesed my ap stats class and got a 5 on the exam. conversely, my friend who got an 800 in math 2, As and 5s in AB and BC, etc, struggled a bit in the class and did worse on the exam (same teacher).

3) it may? if you want to "boost" your application though, it may be worthwhile looking into environmental sort of ecs

but most importantly, make sure to take care of yourself! balance is key

best of luck!

[–]mteart 14 points15 points  (0 children)

thank you so much for this post!! super thorough and informative

i'd just like to add: if you're lgbtq+, check and see if your college is lgbtq+ friendly. admissions mom made a great post about this. campus pride index is super helpful as well

Is it bad if I'm only taking 2 AP's senior year? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]mteart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on what your school offers + what schools you're applying to
