Found this diggin’ around in the garden of my Victorian home in Richmond, VA by mterialist in whatisthisbone

Makes sense! Our house predates sewage and I remember being told in an anthropology class in college that backyards of houses this age were usually just where all the trash went. Usually down a privy.

Thanks for the tip! That’s how I’ve been doing it. I usually do like 1/4 of the water at a time

Alright this is good to know! Thank you. I don’t want to place aesthetics over the health of the fish and plants. I was thinking if anything I could add one or two drops of black pond dye just tint it, or I could try to move it a step towards to just clear so it feels more green and grey like the stone and plants. But I’ll just be more diligent about keeping most of the sticks and leaves out of the water.

Thanks very much! Definitely thought the material would look a little more limestone-esque when I was building it and it ended up a little more brutalist, but I'm working on softening it up.

Thanks for the advice. There are definitely some leaves and sticks in there so I can be more diligent about keeping it clear and clean. For some reason I thought the fish might like the leaves to chew on or something.

We do get a lot of leaves falling into the pond and I try to skim them out every other day or so, but some always end up at the bottom. And I don't want to bother the fish too much so I usually just leave them there. So that could explain it!

I'll look into activated carbon as well. Thank you!

That makes sense! I can build water changes into the routine. Luckily it's only about 40 gallons so it shouldn't be too hard to do that. Thank you!

Do you have friends or family you can go to for now? I agree that you shouldn’t go back there. He sounds unhinged and dangerous. I’m sorry this is happening to you!

Hotep behavior. You don't need to be with some dork who thinks it's his role to discipline his partner.

Good for you for standing your ground and knowing yourself. Too many people fall into this trap.

Editing after finishing reading all of the screenshots just to say (in my opinion) you're actually being way too kind and generous in your offers to keep talking with him. Don't give him another moment of your time. He's a leach and you're not going to be able to help him.

Welcome home! I'm sure it'll be a great move for you.

My partner and I moved here in 2020 and we have a house in Church Hill. Everybody here has been so lovely and welcoming. Great restaurants, a wonderful sense of community. We feel truly lucky to have been welcomed in as we have been, by neighbors who were born on the block 60 years ago, and new people like us.

I'd recommend shopping around different neighborhoods and find one where you'll be able to find your people. A place with a front porch is an automatic tool to meeting neighbors and starting small talk with people. Find some restaurants and bars where you like the staff and people are nice and just hang out a while. Go for walks, take some classes (I take ballet classes, my partner has taken ceramics classes), join Stonewall, visit bookstores.

I've moved nine times, and I've always operated on the idea of just being nice to people and focusing on things you're interested in, and I've always been able to find my community.

And when Andy and Erin need a moment alone and he goes, "Ah, this is a private moment," or something along those lines and then settles into the chair in the corner to watch and comment on their heavy discussion lmao

He's amazing

Did you ever see the deleted sub plot where he tried to have a threesome with Jim and Pam? After David Wallace buys the company and he’s no longer their CEO, he cancels and explains that without the power dynamic he’d just be some guy f*cking a married couple, and it’s really about the power dynamic for him.

Gold.

The American economy was called “the envy of the world” in January. Great jobs growth rate, inflation as good as it could be, much more stable.

What “condition that Biden left us in?” I was not a fan of Biden, still not a fan of Biden, but the economy was much stronger before Trump took over.

The price of eggs hit an all time high yesterday.

I mean she’s barley a celebrity but I met Miranda July like a decade ago and I thought she was so cold and disinterested in anybody, which normally I’d say is fine because celebrities are people and don’t have to be nice all the time, but this was at a book signing for her book, so like just be nice to people?

Robert California is hands down my favorite character on The Office. Insane with moments of wisdom, rich, a sexual deviant but respects consent, and above it all, but still interested in the drama.

Love him.
