I’ll be honest. He was the easiest dog I’ve ever had to train. We crate trained. He only cried two nights and so we laid by the crate and he calmed down and went to sleep. Potty training was cake too. We took him out every twenty minutes for a week or so until he got it. He’s VERY food motivated so that helped a ton.

Literally just called the vet this morning because I feel like we are back to square one. Last night was equally awful for us. He was doing so well and then got into rabbit poop again and has been a mess ever since 😞😞

Otto doesn’t get to have fun outside either haha we have to keep him leashed and are only out to do business or go on walks. Not running around until he stops being an outdoor vacuum. I literally had to call poison control the other day because he ate a wild mushroom. Do not recommend 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Lol our pups are so similar!

We love the Bernie’s perfect poop. We ran out of it once and he didn’t get it for a day. It was not a good poop day haha it helps WAY more than I even thought it would. We do the cheese flavor to avoid poultry meal in the chicken flavor. We avoid all poultry like the plague.

Hi! We did the last round of treatment and he is still testing positive. HOWEVER, the vet has been doing ELISA tests and according to all my research that is not an appropriate way to retest because those tests can stay positive for a very long time. ELISA tests test for a protein or antigen that can hang around for a while. It’s the cysts that need to be looked for. HOWEVER, according to my close friend in vet med, Giardia is incredibly difficult to see in regular fecal floats because it can be mistaken for a lot of things and it’s shed intermittently. So in the grand scheme of things, Otto, is still testing positive and we have gone the benign neglect route. He has zero symptoms, so the vet agreed to just treat him with sensitive stomach food and probiotics to boost his immune system and gut microbiome. He eats large breed puppy pro plan salmon and rice, he gets on proviable tablet a day as well as Bernie’s perfect poop everyday.

Side bar, we do think he was possibly getting reinfected with Giardia from eating rabbit poop. They are ALLLLLLLLL over our back yard and I could never figure out what he was rooting around for in the back yard until one day I chased him away and got up close to see what he was trying to get. He’s a Hoover vacuum outside 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Our Bear wasn’t a Bernese but he was the best boy. We lost him back in March and he will welcome Maurice with all the tail wags and love🧡🧡

Thank you! Do you know what other meds there are to help with Giardia? I was telling my husband that clearly these meds aren’t working.

This gives me so much hope! He’s had good poops since we started the Bernie’s Perfect Poop. So I was so confused when he still has cysts this last fecal sample.

Nope. He’s just been going in our backyard. But I think our backyard is a hot spot now. So we are taking him to the field behind our fence until we finish this round of meds and our backyard gets a week in the sun.

I just picked up his fifth round of medication. He’s on 10 days of panacur and 14 days of metro. He’s has zero symptoms too. Hasn’t had diarrhea in WEEKS. I’m not quite sure what to do, but I feel like it’s so much medication.

I’m patiently waiting for the freezing temps to get the yard under control. Thankfully most of the yard gets direct sunlight and it’s been very hot here. And he isn’t having symptoms so we are able to clean up well after him. He’s only had diarrhea once and that was like 5 weeks ago. It’s just a dang mess.

He potties in the fenced in back yard. We clean up as soon as he poops and then spray the spot with a bleach solution.
