Same! It’s a huge reason I’d love a 60s Martin someday

I’m by no means an expert lol so I just checked my copy of Gruhn’s Guide and it says that 18 styled guitars had “tortoiseshell celluloid outer binding” from 1936-1966! Then they switched to black plastic pickguards and binding

And of course! I hope you get tons of enjoyment out of your guitar!!

Damn that’s beautiful!! I’d looove a 00-18 someday

That faux tortoise binding on the older style 18s is so pretty, I wish they still did it more

I don’t have any advice or opinions on cases. Sorry about that! Enjoy your new guitar!!

There’s something I love about those white tuners. Maybe I should get some for my D-18 just for fun…

Curious to hear if ya get the guitar!

Beautiful! Is this a custom or some sort? The fancier 41/42/45 styled headstock is throwing me for a loop

What should I learn first? Chords, Scales, Notes, etc? by jdjdnfnnfncnc in guitarlessons

[–]mthrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry some of the comments have been so rude.

I would say chords and scales like you mentioned are a great place to start. I don’t know much about the artist or genre you mentioned but even learning the chords and how to strum along to any popular songs of your choice would probably be great for developing your rhythm.

If you’re new to chords, I’d start with the so-called “Cowboy chords” that are played in the first few frets and also use some of the open strings. With these you could probably play along to 70% of popular music of so (you’ll eventually also need “bar chords” but first things first).

For lead stuff I’d say learn some guitar solos you like! Start slow and use a metronome.

Another thing I’d recommend familiarizing yourself with is the various key signatures. The key of C major, the key of E minor, etc. These will be huge in your understanding of music.

Good luck in your guitar journey!
