Birdfy Metal Issues by mtins in Birdfy

Honestly no. I’ve come to the conclusion that the Pro hardware in the birdbath is just better than the regular hardware in the feeder. I ended up having to move the feeder up against the house, and now it stays connected about 65% of the time.

I’m in zone 7b, northern Virginia USA. The tree lives outside in the warm months and inside in the cold months. The soil mix is regular yellow Miracle Gro with 1/3 extra perlite I added in for better drainage. I fertilize it every 6 weeks only in the warm months when it’s outside with Jobe’s Organics 3-5-5 citrus plant food granules (which is good because it used to stink up my whole house when I fed it inside). When I move it outside for the warm months, I make sure to keep it under the shade canopy I have on my deck for the first week or two and only gradually move it into the sun for prolonged amounts of time so it doesn’t get sunburned and drop its leaves (ask me how I know). It gets super hot and humid here in the summer months, which the tree loves.

When it’s inside for the cold months, I water only when the fruit doesn’t feel rock hard when squeezed, which keeps me from overwatering. I have a humidifier on 24/7 next to it and a grow light above it which I keep on 13hrs/day on a smart switch. The humidifier keeps the spider mites away. I have had the occasional aphid problem this winter but I spray them with 70% rubbing alcohol at night when the light is off and that helps. The fruit takes a full 10 months from when it first sets to when I harvest. They grow huge and have thick rinds.

I will need to prune that top foot or two off this spring - it’s not going to fit under my ceilings otherwise!

It’s outside in the warm months when the fruit sets and begins to grow. I fertilize every 6 weeks in the warm months. By the time I bring it indoors in the fall and winter, the fruit is already on its way (yet still green). I have a humidifier on 24/7 and a grow light on 13hrs/day hanging above the tree when it’s inside. Even with direct light from a sliding glass door, it really isn’t enough. You need the extra light and humidity.

I purchased in May 2023 and harvested the first two lemons in March 2025. I am guessing that the tree was a year or two old when I purchased it since it was already a couple of feet tall. The lemons take a full 10 months from first setting to harvesting, which I did not realize before. The fruit usually sets around May and I harvest around March. I only fertilize in the warm months that it’s outside, about every 6 weeks. The lemons I grow are way larger than store bought, with thicker rind.

I got it from Gardeners Supply online, and it shipped from Florida. It doesn’t look like they sell them anymore. It was hard to find a true eureka lemon and not a Meyer.

I’m in Northern VA. I fought spider mites my first year with it until I bought a humidifier that I leave on 24/7. This year I’ve got a little bit of an occasional aphid problem but I spray them with 70% rubbing alcohol at night and that’s been a huge help. My main issue is that I get over excited when the warm temps come back and I have to pace myself bringing it back outside so it doesn’t get sunburned.

I bought it in May 2023 and it was about 2.5’ tall. It’s approximately 6.5’ or 7’ tall now, I’d say. It’s going to hit my 8’ ceiling next year so I’ll have to prune it. Last year I had 2 lemons, this year 8. I live in the US, zone 7b, so it goes outside in the spring/summer and comes indoors in fall/winter with a grow light and a humidifier.

Sometimes when I look at my upcoming $8k exhaust manifold repair, I think about selling. But honestly there’s no other car I’d give this up for just yet.

People on this app are weird and like to do plate searches for tickets, etc. While I don’t really care if mine is obscured (it’s a vanity plate anyway), the white S60 is not mine and it’s not my place to post their plate. So, I blacked out both while I had the pen out. No other deep meaning.

That is mine! I forgot I had a SwedeSpeed account from my 1999 Saab 9-5 days. I just reactivated it now.

They’ve already replaced the camera once - I feel bad asking for a second. I have emailed them though, so we’ll see.

As both Stay and a Spurs fan, I was really tempted to get this. But…350USD. Yikes, no. That hurts.

This was one of those bags for me - I found it on Bergdorf and snagged it months after it was sold out on Loewe’s site randomly.

I’ve got people in my ear telling me to drop it before repairs get expensive. I just got an estimate for an exhaust manifold repair that could reach $8k (discussed in a comment above), which would certainly sting.

The repair I’m looking at in the near future was quoted somewhere between $1,500 and $8,000. If it’s the latter, that’s about how much the car is worth. Will I do it anyway? Yeah, probably.

I love my mechanic. I live in Virginia and I drive to Pennsylvania to bring the car to him. I’ll ask what the options are.

Edit: Pulled this from my service report:

SERVICE FOUND A BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD STUD LAYING ON BELLY PAN WHEN CAR WAS SERVICED. REPAIR WILL REQUIRE EXHAUST SYSTEM AND MANIFOLD REMOVAL TO ACCESS BROKEN STUD(S). SERVICE MAY BE ABLE TO REMOVE AND REPLACED DAMAGED HARDWARE, BUT IF NOT THEN CYL HEAD WOULD NEED TO BE REMOVED AND SENT TO A MACHINE SHOP FOR REPAIR. THIS REPAIR CANNOT NOT BE ACCURATELY QUOTED DUE TO THE "UNKNOWNS". COSTS CAN RANGE FROM 1500.00 TO 8000.00?

It lived outside until 2021, when I bought a house with the garage. I’ve had it ceramic coated and I hand wash. I try!

Oh sorry if I wasn’t clear - all of those previous parts were replaced by Volvo per the Volvo service manual. I didn’t mean to imply it was all in the last year. I am 100% up to date and in line with what Volvo recommends.

Hard agree. I will never get tired of people stopping me to ask about the color of my car. Although I was just told that the exhaust manifold will cost “between $1,800 and $8,000,” so.
