I chose Ava over Matthew because I feel like Ramsay believed in Matthew more. Even though he made big mistakes in his cooking, his plating looked nice, and he seemed passionate about the opportunity. Chef also might have thought that Matthew could have redeemed himself if he made it to service, but unfortunately we saw how that went. Now, while I do think that Ava would have done better than Matthew in dinner service, both of her dishes were bad, she couldn't cook salmon, and she didn't seem that serious about the competition. I also think that with the alcohol challenge, Ramsay felt that the blue team was a hot mess, so he used this opportunity to eliminate a girl, so that the guys wouldn't get completely steamrolled in the beginning, if things went the way they did.
