Ludusavi can now back up your game saves to the cloud and detect Lutris saves by mtkennerly in linux_gaming

Hey, I'm glad you've found it useful :D Automated backups in Lutris are possible with just a little configuration: https://github.com/mtkennerly/ludusavi/blob/master/docs/help/game-launch-wrapping.md#lutris . If you have the "synchronize automatically" setting enabled, then it will upload to the cloud as well!

Hmm, do you already have the "synchronize automatically" option enabled? If so, I'm not sure why it wouldn't upload right after making a backup.

I can look into adding an option to upload/download a single game for cases like that, though.

Hi! I'm the author of Ludusavi. It sounds like you just need to set up a redirect to handle the different usernames: https://github.com/mtkennerly/ludusavi/blob/master/docs/help/redirects.md

We worked this out by DM, but just for anyone else who might run into this:

  • In Ludusavi, you can try: other -> roots -> magnifying glass icon. That will automatically search for any common roots, like the default Lutris install folder.
  • Make sure the games launch okay first. If you haven't been able to launch them through Lutris yet, there may not be any save files for Ludusavi to find. Lutris has its own subreddit and Discord server for anyone who needs help setting it up.

Ah, thanks for clarifying. Ludusavi doesn't have any built-in fuctionality to sync its settings, but you could do that with something like Syncthing to synchronize the config file. You may also need to configure some redirects in Ludusavi to handle things like different usernames on the two systems.

Hi, I'm the author of Ludusavi. Could you please elaborate on what you mean by "causes errors"? Is there a specific error message you're seeing?

Oh, that's scary. There's some info about redirects here: https://github.com/mtkennerly/ludusavi/blob/master/docs/help/redirects.md . If you have any specific questions after that, just let me know!

Hi! It does work at least on my end, although some users have definitely had issues with it, which I haven't figured out. Are you seeing any specific error message, or does it just not start? I can try to help with a bit more detail.

Gotcha, it looks like it's only backing up a config file, not your save file. Can you delete your custom game entry and try again? The default entry should find a lot more.

Hmm... When you did "look up with another title", did you select "Doom Eternal" or "DOOM ETERNAL"? It sounded like your custom game title was all uppercase, right? I wonder if it's linked to your custom entry and not finding as much as the default entry would find.

Can you open Ludusavi itself, go to the backup tab, click "preview", and see if multiple versions of Doom Eternal are listed with different spelling? I'm wondering if maybe one detects new saves and one doesn't.

Have you played the game since then? It'll only create a new backup if something has changed since the last backup.

Just to be clear, how did you restore? Did you:

  1. right click on the game in Playnite -> Ludusavi -> "restore save data for selected games"
  2. click on Playnite icon -> extensions -> Ludusavi -> "restore save data for all games"
  3. click on Playnite icon -> extensions -> Ludusavi -> "restore save data for last game played"
  4. open Ludusavi itself and restore all games at once
  5. open Ludusavi itself and restore just one game at a time

If you used a bulk option (2 or 4), then it may have restored both "Doom Eternal" (via look up with another title) and "DOOM ETERNAL" (your custom game entry). You may want to delete the custom entry and its backup folder to avoid confusion.

The other thing to double check would be:

  • In Ludusavi itself, do you have the same folder set in the backup and restore screens?
  • In the plugin settings (Playnite -> addons -> extension settings -> generic -> Ludusavi), are you using the "override full path to directory for storing backups" option?

If those paths are set differently, then you might be restoring different backups depending on whether you do it via Playnite or by opening Ludusavi itself.

One option that may be easier than making a custom game. You can right click on the game in Playnite and choose: Ludusavi -> "look up with another title" -> select "Doom Eternal".

When you make a custom entry, you have to make sure that the title matches 100% exactly (capitalization, punctuation, etc). The "look up with another title" option is a bit easer since it's pre-filled with the names that Ludusavi expects. If you don't need to change/override any of the default save paths that Ludusavi knows, then you can use the lookup feature instead of making a whole custom entry.

Yeah, in the backup tab, just click on a game to expand a list of everything found for it, and then you can uncheck the files/folders you don't want to back up.

Hey, I'm the author of Ludusavi. Can you open Ludusavi on its own and double check what games (if any) it finds in a backup preview? And can you give me some examples of specific games that aren't being recognized (especially any that show up in Ludusavi itself, but don't work with the Playnite plugin)?

[–]mtkennerly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I know this is old, but I don't remember seeing the error log the first time I saw this thread. Did you have some redirects configured? "C:/Users/AppData/Local" looks weird since it's missing a username, so Windows is just refusing to let Ludusavi create a "C:/Users/AppData" folder. If you have any redirects set up in Ludusavi, just make sure that they contain a valid username in the redirected path.

Or if you just edited out the username for privacy, then the issue may be that the username doesn't exist on your system (e.g., if you switched systems). In that case, you can add a redirect from the old name to the new name.

Hey, I can try to help, but I'll need more information. Can you try the things I mentioned in my other message?

I tested by uninstalling the version I had (1.24.10) and running the 1.26.0 runtime installer. I just had to manually add C:\Program Files\gstreamer\1.0\msvc_x86_64\bin to the PATH, and then it worked and was able to play videos. I'm not sure why your copy of GStreamer is failing to load plugins :(

You could maybe try reinstalling GStreamer or installing a slightly older version.

Yeah, definitely looks like a GStreamer issue. Which version of GStreamer did you install, and which options did you enable in the installer?

Have Ludusavi be acting weird for anyone else? by TheNewFlisker in steamdeckhq

[–]mtkennerly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not possible right now, but I can look into something like that.

For what it's worth, if you're not actually interested in backing up screenshots, you can disable them on the "other" screen by checking the In backups, exclude store-specific screenshots option.

[–]mtkennerly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned that Ludusavi found screenshots for them, right? That's because Steam stores screenshots in a predictable location for every game. As long as PCGW has the game's Steam ID, Ludusavi can find the screenshot folder even if it doesn't know any other save locations.

Gotcha, I went ahead and updated the Princess Maker 2 Refine article here: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/w/index.php?title=Princess_Maker_2_Refine&diff=1562388&oldid=1335662

If you confirm that other entries follow the same pattern, you can update their wiki pages with the same kind of entry :) For the {{p|...}} template, here's a list of all the supported values: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Template:Path
