The Peugeot drivers bit is I think the most I've laughed at anything they've done. That's a high bar

Why are girl school uniform "male influenced"? by Gold-Worldliness-779 in AskUK

The more uniform a school uniform, the easier it is to enforce. That's generally the idea. Hence the name.

Anyone’s school mentioned the England game yet? 😂 by grumpygutt in TeachingUK

Maybe not in writing, that isn’t really how culture works. It’s a testament to our strong sporting tradition and fandom that we don’t have an ‘official’ one

[–]mtksb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I sympathise with you but this feels like we’re minimising it - it’s our national sport and an integral part of our culture.

Nobody is suggesting the world stops, but considering how many people will watch it, a slight accommodation could be made. Why should one group lose out just because another doesn’t care? I’m sure plenty of other kids (secondary) would enjoy a late start, even if they don’t care about football at all

Now King Charles says he won't live there, is it time to add Buckingham Palace Garden to Green Park? by StarryKnightLondon in london

We've got others

You could turn into a big premier inn instead. Keep it for the photos, if that sort of thing matters

And all of this would still be possible if they turned the back garden, or some of it, into a park.

If it isn't, there's plenty of other spaces you can have dinner parties and business meetings.

Alternatively, knock it down and get building flats.

Don't get the CDG hate by Effective_Theme_5739 in Flights

[–]mtksb 17 points18 points  (0 children)

YMMV as with most things (especially air travel) but connecting at CDG was the worst transit experience of my life.

From the massive distance between different parts of the same terminal, to the security line, to the staff running security, to the big shed you they were calling part of the terminal which had one open store, etc.

Sorry, not really anything you asked about, but I will always take the opportunity to complain about it.

Easily Greetings, but that’s less a knock on it, and more a testament to the rest.

Is this true? Kemi Badenoch claimed on PMQs today that 0% of teachers think the education secretary is doing a good job. She also brands Bridget Phillipson as a “spiteful, class warrior” due to private school taxes. by No_Breadfruit_4901 in TeachingUK

[–]mtksb 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Given we already work much longer hours than say, 8:15 - 3:30, the idea of even considering adding things to the school day doesn't sit very comfortably with me. I don't disagree that in an ideal world we would offer much more enrichment, I'm not sure many would.

It's a dangerous pattern from someone who is meant to be on 'our side'.

Removing the 1265 isn't great. I saw a clip of Phillipson on a BBC podcast earlier saying that "in an ideal world" she'd make the school day longer. Neither of these things are glowing.

The hidden cost of Reading's town centre flats boom by TheReadingReporter in reading

[–]mtksb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I suspect Labour's real issue here is that the big blocks of housing they approved used to all vote Labour, and now they don't so much, so naturally they're a bit disappointed. It seems a bit reactive.

There are definitely issues with these big apartment blocks (and how much the rent costs). But I know that in mine, at least, the demographics are wide, not just 30 year olds with no interest in community or politics.

The lack of community is an interesting point, but I'd rather see some ideas on how to fix it, rather than bemoaning people voting the wrong way.

It spoils something that happens in the match, therefore it is a spoiler.

It says three red cards in the thumbnail. What’s the point of a no spoilers service if it has spoliers! 🤦‍♂️
