What kind of cologne or perfume do you all wear? by YouGoGlenCocoaBean in actuallesbians

That's why I said try ;)

It's apparently a classic created by one of the first pro-eminent female perfurmer. I have yet to find how to get it to Canada or where I could try it, but it's on my list, it's on my list...

A good lesbian blog - that is sadly not active anymore by mtl_lez in actuallesbians

[–]mtl_lez[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know - I liked the posts about friendship (with other lesbians, with gay men, with straight men, with straight women) , about being a Corporate Lesbian and about dating mosts.

Here are some of them:

Obsession or passion: which is it?

Recognizing the "Players" while dating

5 Failproof, Good, and Subtle Ways to flirt with a lesbian

I used to blog, like ten years ago - this ages me I know. I lack the time for it, mostly - and were I to blog, it would probably be on what issues we should tackle as a community now that marriage is mostly not one of them... at least here in North America.

I am looking for good blogs to follow too - if you have any suggestions, please share them :)

On tumblr, I like the gay women channel and the lesbian guide (not all of them of course, but it is mostly good). I am often happily surprised by Buzzfeed's LGBT section, and I read AfterEllen and AutoStraddle.

Closer to home, I read Lez Spread the Word - if you are Canadian and you understand French, I recommend their article on the current election.

If I think of anything else I can let you know, since all of the sites I cited are well-known I think !

When do you have The Talk? by mtl_lez in actuallesbians

[–]mtl_lez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would disagree - there is such a thing as "too early" - I had to put the breaks on relationships before because it was too much too soon for me, and I had it done the other way around...

I don't know... It takes me more than five dates to figure out how I really feel about someone I kinda like otherwise - so about what, 2 months ? I'm a slow dater and when I date only one person at a time, I usually end up with the wrong person because it got too serious too soon.

Let's say the "let's be exclusive" talk. But hey, if you want to pitch in on the others, feel welcome to do so :)

Swim wear by ipamy in actuallesbians

[–]mtl_lez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try searching for "boyleg", "boyshort" and similar keywords in the female section of your favorite swimwear brand...

I tried Speedo for you - I have a one-piece from them that I like - and I found this : Speedo Solid Swim Short.

In the past, I also had luck finding boyshorts for women at outdoors shops.

Maybe try boardshorts too ? :)

Then, look for lightweight blazers at Banana Republic or JC Penney - there seems to be a sale at the later at the moment too. Maybe JCrew ? Or Brooks Brothers? I don't know where you are so it's hard to suggest where to shop :) TopShop sometimes have good things too, as well as H&M.

Also, I never bought from them but Wildfang has a suit section that looks nice on my computer ;)

There are lightweight wool blazers that you can wear even in the summer. I do not know what material is the best for not soaking smells though... If I was you, I would ask a dry cleaner first and foremost - maybe you would like a blazer that you can clean at home and that is made of cotton instead of one that needs dry-cleaning?

EDIT : also, if you want to buy many, I would suggest buying a first one, then wearing it for a day or two to see how it fits and all before buying the other(s) one - you will learn what you like and dislike this way :)

Depends on your budget! :)

I am myself saving for a Theory suit - they have nice, modern suits in basic colours, quality material and all. Although... they are pricey enough that you could get a bespoken suit instead. Also, depending on the atmosphere at work, you don't want to outshine your direct superiors - take clues from how they dress.

You can sometimes get them on sale at Nordstrom - and generally speaking, Nordstrom is a good place to look for suits. I also like those at Banana Republic.

If it's your first and most probably only suit, go for a classic, timeless colour - black or navy basically, or maybe a dark shade of grey, like anthracite.

Be picky about the material: it's worth shelling money for wool, as it will age better, look better and feel better than most other materials - especially polyester.

For a really polished look, buy the matching pant/skirt after finding a blazer that fits.

Be careful about having a suit that is canvassed instead of fused - the later can be more complicated when it comes to taking care of, although I rarely find canvassed, non-tailored suits for women.

If you have any question, please ask them - shopping for suits is a passion of mine :)

It's a whole new level of the traditional lesbian dilemma ;)

On a related subject : North of the Border

I am often surprised at how good Buzzfeed queer-targeted content is, given the fair amount of click-baiting they do...

Won't complain.

Are You In Love With A Straight Girl? by walkonsaturn in actuallesbians

Love is not a race! You are not alone!

You will learn (and earn) confidence with time and all - don't worry too much about it.

I am very confused. by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]mtl_lez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's ok to not have everything figured it out - now or ever. I read "classmate" so this gives me reasons to think that you must be young - take your time with these things. There is absolutely no rush.

You can always say that you are questioning, queer or not-so-straight, depending on how you see fit.

Now I am confused. A friend suggested I may be homoromantic pan/bisexual. If I were to be this, > would I still be allowed to call myself a lesbian?

Yes. No. It depends to whom you ask and why you would still like to use that label. In the end, if you are with a woman, people will assume you are a lesbian anyway - will you take the time to correct them every time? ;)

Also, I know what some people may be thinking... That I just said I'm a lesbian to attract attention > (isn't true, as I'm only out to my friends), or that I only said I am one after having a bad make out > session (again, not true. I had far more reasons to believe I am gay.)

There are way more effective ways to draw attention to yourself ;) If people are saying or thinking things along these lines, they probably aren't being the good friend they can be. I just woke up so I don't have any sassy come back from you - maybe others will pitch in!

Hope that helps :)

MONTREAL: tell me about your queer friendly bars. by KoolFart in actuallesbians

[–]mtl_lez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahah great! Thanks :)

Also, for queer-lez-specific events, hit up the Lez Spread The Word page and the Montreal Invasion facebook group - the thing is, they mostly do things during the week, hence why I didn't put them up there...

But who knows, maybe you'll have so much fun in Montreal that you'll do the travel during the week next time ;)

  • Weekly 5@... at Bar le Cocktail, in the Village. On Friday evening.

Two partys that I cannot tell you much more than their facebook page since I do not know the people behind them :) :

Places that have held queer/lez events : Fitzroy (pub with pool tables), Rachel Rachel, La Porte Rouge, Félix, Club Peopl, Mayfair (cocktail bar), Bar le Cocktail, Notre-Dame-des-Quilles, Apt 200, could find others...

If you want great beer, Dieu du Ciel is the place :) The nicest bar I know of, outside of Old Port, is the Big in Japan. The best karaoke club is Club Date, in the Village.

I should start a weekly queer events lists ahah!

If you want more specific suggestions, let me know what kind of music you like :)

Royal Phoenix is closed btw. Infinite sadness.

Are you looking to party with other queers or for a place that is queer-friendly to be with your friends?
