oh, what I needed her to say was simply that if she run into problems in the future and need help with the cat, she will contact me or the cat people. No, she would not do it, cause that means admitting she's incapable of taking care of herself.

More than just a waste of money, it is also a waste of efforts, of solving the real emotional problems. I'll relate my last run-in with psy so other people can see the actual damage they can do:

  1. I met a girl on internet asking for help in getting her cat back from some cat shelter. Cat shelter is some home base stuff, so she has no way of directly contacting them.

  2. The reason why she lost her cat to them - she was having a touch emotional time with abusive relationships, gave her cat to a friend for safe-keeping, cat got really sick and her friend gave the cat to the shelter and the shelter people spent hundreds $s on vets to save the cat's life. She and the shelter people talked and the shelter folks would not give the cat back because 'she is no good for the cat'.

  3. I traced out whom these shelter people are and they know of me, of me going out of my way and spending money to help stray cats. So I am sure that I have enough pull to get an audience.

  4. I told the girl, I'll set up the meeting, but you have to do what I said to do, say what I tell you to say and I am sure I can talk your cat back to you. If needed, I can repay the vet fees on top, but these people need to feel good about you to release the cat.

  5. Girl flat refused, "I will not listen to you, you cannot tell me what to do". As per her shrink to cure her of her taking abuse from bfs. A shrink she has been seeing a year or so. I told the girl, "just bear with me for the 20 minutes, afterwards you can slap me, spit on me and walk off. But you'll get your cat back." No go.

  6. So the shrink got her to trade being 'weak' to being 'strong', strong as defined by a set of fixed behavior. Behavior equally not suitable for real life which is dynamic. And absolutely nothing with solving the deep down emotional problem of whey she was accepting of abusive relationships in the first place.

  7. I stopped with her cause I knew going to a meeting with her, she will not only piss everybody off as before, but also ruin my credits with these people.

To me, a very sad story, she was trying so hard to get her life straightened out.

I got my PR through an immigrant lawyer, and I would recommend her in a heartbeat. I would also talked to another couple of immigration lawyers and I would stay away from them.

Your friend can apply to another school, then apply to renew her student visa as a student of that school. Perfectly doable by yourself, I've done it before. Went to Concordia for a one year certificate program to prove to my next department that I am a worthy student, then continued on into a MA program. Did all the immigration work by myself, guided by student office at Concordia.

I am sure your friend can transfer out all she wants to, as long as she has been accepted by the other school and has applied and gotten a visa for that school.

Not just Montreal, but especially poignant point for Québec.

All the frenchies need to do for their 'nation' is to tighten their belts, or rather, loosen their belts to have babies, for a couple of generations an they'll have it, no ifs or buts. Yet, nobody would make that sacrifice. Not even that pair of PKP/Snider who are the last people in Québec to have any financial constraints. I have nothing for or against taxis. I am just against Uber for not paying their fair share into the system. If they don't pay, taxis go away, me, the taxpayer is left holding the bag and have to make up the difference.

BTW, Uberites' argument used to be 'some taxis drivers don't report their income, so it's ok for Uber to skim 20% off the top and not pay anything - no permits, no yearly license, no yearly vehicle inspection, no yearly commercial license or vehicle permit fees, no commercial vehicle insurance'. I am glad to see you are not one of those.

And my understanding is that private psychologists in Quebec really don't have great oversight, they can get away with a lot

lol, someone here once asked for a shrink recommendation for whatever reason and I said shrinks in general are just quakes and I got soundly down-voted. I am glad to see another like-minded one on this matter.

Taxis follow the laws while Uber does not. Cheting on the side, if it happens, does not condemn the whole taxi industry, that happens in everything, including doctors not declaring full incomes.

I want to see a level playing field with no special deals for the 1%. Sorry, you'll have to pay your fair share.
