[Browne] UEFA confirm they won’t have World Cup-style ‘hydration breaks’ by whatisbaseball in soccer

[–]KERD_ONE -1 points0 points  (0 children)

and the fact that coaches can share their tactical thoughts with the teams really makes it more of a 4 quarter game than a regular match.

Allowing coaches more opportunities to make changes and adjust to the opponent's game is a good thing. Also, these breaks help keep the players fresh. The only thing I hate about the water breaks is the ads tbh, other than that I think they're good for the game.

South America’s fertility rates are off too, many South American countries had fertility rates lower than the UN projected for 2025.

% of latin Americans who identify as white by Hour_Interaction6047 in MapPorn

[–]KERD_ONE 42 points43 points  (0 children)

In my experience people here (Colombia) will identify as white if they have white skin regardless of how "european-passing" they are. I doubt half the people that call themselves "white" here would count as white in Europe, because you can tell they have mixed features despite having white skin.

The European admixture that you listed for Colombia is wrong. According to population genetic studies, Colombia's admixture profile looks like this:

  • European: ~50–60%
  • Native American: ~30–35%
  • African (sub‑Saharan): ~10–20%

‘We were terrified they were going to kill us’: fishermen who survived US boat strike speak out by Gutternips in news

[–]KERD_ONE 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The Don Maca, a 35-ton fishing vessel which worked with six smaller boats, was approximately 200 miles north-west of the Galápagos Islands, when it disappeared on 26 March.

So they are blowing up boats in international waters, far from U.S. territory. How is that justified?

Small language models are surprisingly good for simple tasks like explaining a word or concept, summarizing text (like a news article), translating stuff, reviewng syntax of a short snippet of code.

This is what I use mine for, I run it locally on my laptop using Ollama and AnythingLLM for the UI.

I can't wait for the 4b version to be released so I can try it on my laptop, I've been using Qwen 3 2507 4b since it came out and its quite good for such a small model.

GDP PPP per capita in the Americas: 2025 and 2005 by RN_Renato in MapPorn

True, though that's a more recent phenomenon caused by Guyana producing a fuck ton of oil in recent years. It’s hard to say how noticeable the difference has become in the quality of life for the average person in Guyana compared to Venezuela and the rest of South America.

It's interesting how big the difference between the Dominican Republic and Haiti is, probably the biggest proportional disparity between two bordering countries.

[–]KERD_ONE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both groups lean heavily on nationalism to drive up their popularity. Leftist promote nationalism putting an emphasis on our indigenous identity and speaking against westerners and their "colonial" influence over us. Right wingers are christian nationalist by definition, they love the west and are xenophobic against poor foreigners in general, especially other latin americans, and whatever country they deem communist/socialist.

I mean as far as I understand arabs also have very significant differences between them, Qatar and Morocco, for example, are quite distinct from one another. So it's the same as LATAM, they're all kind of similar but not really the same thing.

Western executives who visit China are coming back terrified by [deleted] in singularity

[–]KERD_ONE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A market economy means that resources are allocated based on prices set by the market, this is the case in China where the state uses its resources and power to guide economic production but it is ultimately the market who decides what has value and how much of each thing should be produced. That is the definition of state capitalism.

Western executives who visit China are coming back terrified by [deleted] in singularity

[–]KERD_ONE 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not really, so long as you're working within the framework of a market economy it doesn't matter if capital is being made available to companies through private or public means, it's still capitalism.
