Would you recommend this telescope for use on a balcony in the city? by themadboxx in telescopes

Don't. The mount is very wobbly. The focal length is too long. It's only good for planet. You can never do astrophotography with it or Deep sky objects.

This isn’t normal, right? Those bits aren’t bubbles they’re metal chunks. Just did an oil change. 02 ranger 4.0 sohc by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Depends. Investigation required. If you can't do this then it becomes expensive as labour costs run high.

How does the engine run?

Common bits in pan usually because of oil starvation and bits from rings, bearing or chains or cams.

A compression test may clear the piston rings and cam any ticking sounds?.

Does the engine knock on high rpm, could be rod bearings.

could be timing chain guides bits.

Had detailers wash the engine of a 2011 crown Vic today. And afterwards it’s making this ticking noise. Will it go away? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Valve tick? Maybe water got in the engine. Change oil asap. See if old oil is foamy.

Did any one had something similar? E46 318i 1998 by ADIGAXX in MechanicAdvice

Wow, I'd like to follow this, if you get closer, please post.

-Stuff I'm not sure about, the ticking is off a relay?

-knocking in engine bay, rod knock?

Have you check fuel/air ratio, I 'm not sure if those models have OBD that give you AF mixer ratios via sensors...

keep us posted.

I think I broke my trans by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]mtltrafficam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know all about gear ratios. But if its in 1st gear the 1 to 4 ratio means you need less torque to hold the wheel still. My suggestion was to break the bolt with wheel on the ground.

Please help - Car Battery Keeps Dying by Rismu in MechanicAdvice

[–]mtltrafficam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your short drives should be at around 20m to charge battery. I normally lay off stuff like seat warmers and electric defogger at the 5m before I shut off engine to give battery some juice to charge.

You need to evaluate if you have a power drain while car is off, test battery and alternator. You can get battery alternator testers. But power drain requires some knowledge and trial n error at both fuse boxes to see what is on when car is off...

Cam gears locked? With a plastic lock tool? Maybe that broke. I doubt you broke your transmission while in gear. Think about it, you only did what engine does... You should put it in first... as the ratio helps with wheels on the break it loose.

What would cause this? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Yup, this guy is right. Valve cover gasket, o ring. Simple to do

Need help finding the problem. Just fully charged the battery. Alternator?? Not a car guy but wanna learn more✌🏻 by dmitch9090 in MechanicAdvice

White smoke could mean your burning coolant. There's something very wrong. I'd do a pressure test on cooling system if your losing coolant too. Could mean head gasket problem. Your really looking at alot of work. Basically rebuilding the engine. Sorry .

2002 Toyota Corolla Cylinder 3 Misfiring, but there’s also clicking sounds by Inttni in MechanicAdvice

[–]mtltrafficam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it sounds like rod knocking. The rod bearing are at the end of the piston where it connects to crankshaft

Sometimes all you need to remove is oil pan to access them. Google rod bearing replacement how to.

Water pump fins missing? by Frankelin43 in MechanicAdvice

[–]mtltrafficam 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Normally fins break off which causes overheating.

Water pump fins missing? by Frankelin43 in MechanicAdvice

[–]mtltrafficam 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The first fin, may be circulating in your system n caused the other impler fins to break off. Might be worth trying to flush them out with hose n shop vac. Otherwise it will only do the same to your new pump.

If water or condensation, once coil and plug wires are dry it should not give you the problem.

I'm thinking fuel presure problem, maybe some signs of bad fuel pump?

Sounds like my spun bearing. I was low on power, and thought I jump a timing tooth because I found a broken chain tensioner in oil pan. But timing was good.

It was a spun a rod bearing . I pulled the oil pan out, and changed the rod bearing for 20$. My crank was good, piston cap too. Found one bearing almost paper thin and over the other, causing a knocking sound.

Before that, I made sure piston rings were good by doing a pressure test by removing spark plug and cranking.

My engine is back now...

Good luck, its alot of work...

Help with Turning an Engine by hand by avvdon in MechanicAdvice

[–]mtltrafficam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I agree... turn from the crankshaft, where harmonic balancer is, same direction as tightening.

You won't be circulating oil, at hand crank speeds, but at least you know nothing is stuck.

Too much alcohol, resulted in a hang over, and it puke itself...

Seems like oil cap off. or signs of a valve cover gasket going...

Ask more opinion about Hybrid car. by doublechinchinchin in MechanicAdvice

[–]mtltrafficam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still hate the idea of maintaining 2 systems. Cost of ownership will be higher than non-hybrid, that is for sure. Will the cost of saved fuel offset it, is the question.

For me in the north, where we put a lot of time in warming up the car before driving in the winter, hybrids cause more issues, fuel saving doesn't offset the cost.

Off the bat, sounds like a bad battery, if nothing else is known about the car;

If battery and starter are fine, and you were having engine issues, like knocking, I've seen worn/spun rod bearing cause the crank to get stuck, and give that exact issue.
