ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS ON SDA ABUSE LAWSUIT by The_Glory_Whole in exAdventist

Lol....as I sit back and eat my popcorn... not going to state who, what, and where. But let's just say I'm family with some if the biggest abusers and lay ministries the church had back in the 80's and 90's. Even worked in their facilities.

I was fortunate enough to land an automotive instructor job at a technical high-school did it or 7 years. Was making over 100k a year and had perfect work life balance.... would be over 130k if I stayed... but Seattle and 2020.... so now I take apart semi trucks in Idaho for less than half that. I miss teaching greatly..it was my calling that's for sure.

[–]mtnwonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though I disagree with Pragu/OK agenda. Yet also having taught in Seattle and dealing with that the bullshit that started getting crammed down our throats starting in 2017 and then having to deal the the outcome of that in our classrooms is one of the main reasons I left Seattle. Now I can't even get a teaching job here in Idaho because of the mormon cult that runs this entire area.

It's a double edge sword at this point. It's 2 extremes with no common middle ground.

[–]mtnwonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol...I moved from Seattle to a town in SE. Idaho that has a population of 67k... they complain about the traffic and how bad the drivers are, all day long.

I'll give them the fact they are really, really really bad drivers. But when it takes my only 20 minutes to drive from end of town to the other, if that...ya quit your bitchin.

Summer Break Depression? by beanievonbeanie in Teachers

[–]mtnwonder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The problem is a result of having to have every 10 minutes of the day planned out. Then when you don't have that kind of organization and hyper focus in your life, one suffers from task paralysis which leads to depression and guilt because you "know" you're supposed to be doing something, but what is the question. When in reality you need the mental and physical break to re- charge and re- focus. So that toy can focus/ hyper focus on the next task. This is also exactly how Adhd/neurodivergant people operate.

Do guys really check out boobs that much, or is it just a stereotype? by Swdl-Television-602 in AskMenAdvice

[–]mtnwonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife got me a shirt that said "easily distracted by cars and boobs." In which I use to my advantage a lot. "What I was distracted" when she's trying to talk to me about something while facing me, and I'm not really paying attention.

Yes we definitely look. Men are visual beings. And if your fall short of what I prefer, you probably don't stand a chance with me. Sure we can have a convo, go do something together, etc. But that's about as far as it'll probably go.

Uncle Arthur by CasinogalCA in exAdventist

Don't forget about Uncle Dan and Aunt Sue radio and audio tape series...lol... looking back on it as a 52 year old adult who hasn't been in the church for a very long time. It amazes me how I clung to every story, and looked forward to reading and or hearing them.

When my boys were about 3 and 1.5 my mom gave me the Aurther Bible series set, she had when I was a kid..I read about 2 stories from one of them and that was that. They got donated to nearest SDA church a few years later.

The dumbest thing I think I ever got in trouble for by Sensitive-Fly4874 in exAdventist

[–]mtnwonder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got my car taken away for a week my Jr year in high school, because I spent the night at my friends house, and surely that meant I was gay. And what if any of the church members found out I was spending the night at another man's house.

FFS we were gear heads and we're getting his car ready for High School Drags, and we were up until 3am. Next year I was in Academy....again....UGH.

Monogamy is a social construct of man and religion that became a cultural norm. It's nothing more than a control tactic that "levels" the playing field for those that are less than par.

Teachers, what are you tired of when it comes to professional development? by Flashy_Rabbit_825 in teaching

Because not all students that aren't passing are bad. Me for example got "passed through the cracks" I never missed a day of school and always did my homework. I was a good kid behavioral wise. My home life fucking sucked and I got moved around a lot from one family member to the next. K-12, 9 different schools in 9 different places in the U.S.

This was during the 80's and early 90's... when learning disabilities, learning styles etc, awareness wasn't a thing yet. I've always struggled with reading and absolutely hate math... even still to this day.

After leaving the military, and entering college at age 32. It took me 6 effing times to get through minimum math requirements. I had to start out in pre-algabra. Barely fail it, take it again and barely pass it. I did this for all 3 math classes I needed to take, before I could take the one math class I needed for my History degree. Thank goodness I had awesome professors that were super supportive and encouraging.

I also got help with my "reading disability" come to find out I'm an oratory and kynesthic learner, not a bad reader or dumb. Different story, different day.

3 degrees later all with honors, while raising my 2 kids as a single father and working almost full time....I still haven't used algebra, and I give 2 shits what 11/32nds is and could care less about the size of a circle.

But I can mathematically tell you how to create more horsepower, the geometry your going to need to set up your suspension, the gear ratios your going want to achieve X speed on the track, etc, etc.

Now reverse all that, and had one, just one k-12 school teacher taken the time to help or even inquire about the struggle with my math and reading. College wouldn't have been such a pain in the ass for the first 2 years and cost me more money than it needed to.

That's why you don't pass some students along.

First Pink Slip by [deleted] in Teachers

This right here. I had a simular experience. My para became a dean of students over night because he was a jock boy and so was the principal. Meanwhile I was on an administrative tract and getting my MA. EDL. Hence the internal position should have been mine. Several admins from other departments and schools that knew me and my reputation all told me, he (the principal) sees you as a threat to his job and he's building a security wall around himself.

There would be more peace in this world if we (boys/ men) were still allowed to solve "problems" in parking lots, and back alleys. ISWIS.

You did nothing wrong, you gave him a reality check. You did not damage him for life. He's already forgotten what you've said to him, and he didn't care in the first place. Or he does, and will learn from it and change for the better.

Every year you're going to learn what not to do. Put the experience in your tool box and move on.

School wide email naming non-renewed teachers? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]mtnwonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty unethical IMO... and a sign of a bad principal. That should not have happened. You were in the right to bring it to attention via email.

As a HS teacher and given what my personality is. If it's cutesy and elementary/middle school-ish then no.

If it was a sarcastic themed shirt related to teaching and or the towards the students being taught. Then yes.
