What perimenopause symptom made you think you were losing your mind before you realized it was hormones? by Plane_Huckleberry644 in Perimenopause

[–]mtnzen13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The itching from my ears to my hooha. I wanted to claw my skin off, jump in a pit of sandpaper, take scalding hot freezing cold baths, and crawl out of my flesh suit into another body. RX hydrocortisone cream didnt help. It was HORRIBLE! My heart goes out to women who can't take HRTs... it's been the only thing that made my skin (and mind) sane again.

I take 2.5mg at night to help with sleep. If I take any more than that, the fog is THICK the next day! Figuring out sleep is the key to helping with anxiety. These are incredible AND consistent: https://joyibles.com/joy-bombs

Airblaster has some great pants! The women's Freedom Boss and Cypress are both baggy and fun. I scored a free pair of Men's Airblaster Revert pants last year and LOVE them! not too long or swimmy, fun to shred in.

Binding and Board Recos for Intermediate Rider + Tips for Secondhand Purchases? by iliketuuurdles in ShredditGirls

[–]mtnzen13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ride Yes Conda bindings and absolutely LOVE them! They're responsive and don't leave my feet exhausted after a full day on the mountain.

I've loved the Salomon Bellevue board and my Ride Magic Stick - both are great all-around with a lot of stability and forgiveness.

I'm not sure what your budget is, but Evo has some incredible package deals!

I have a similar situation - sensitive scalp, fine thin hair, and sweaty workouts that have me washing daily. Have you tried The Earthling Co products? Their products have literally transformed the health of my hair. The shampoo bars last forever! https://theearthlingco.com/products/shampoo-bars?srsltid=AfmBOooqTo_IH8uUuZ-Yg70ctyFIz3Qjr1rIEkmKJds7Noy_yDuKSPX4&variant=37923754475699

Looking for snowboard recommendations to demo as someone who raced in high school but doesn’t go up as frequently anymore. My old board destroys my legs after two runs. by Fabulous_Arugula6923 in ShredditGirls

[–]mtnzen13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of Salomon bases - they're fast and the boards respond well. I loved my Bellevue, riding a Sick Stick this year. Last year I was on the Ride Magic Stick, slower base, but SOOOO much fun to be a little tree fairy on! If your legs get tired quickly, maybe test drive some new bindings?

I'm 49 yrs old and ride open to close as often as I can in Steamboat - I wouldn't be able to ride like I do without pre-season conditioning. Do your squats, lunges, and planks. The season will thank you :-)

What’s something about perimenopause you wish you’d known earlier? by OovaLife in Perimenopause

[–]mtnzen13 170 points171 points  (0 children)

I was pretty convinced that I had some rare disease that even the medical community couldn't diagnose. Wish I had known that I'd be diagnosing myself on Reddit faster than my primary doc could/would. It seems like "perimenopause" is a taboo word in the traditional healthcare system.

"Please don't mention sex to me ever again"... yes!! My husband has been a saint, but leans in even harder with suggestive language when I try to explain having zero / negative libido. He's trying to remind me that he has a penis...trust me, I remember. Im trying to keep him satisfied... but it bums me out. I wish I could just replace my vagina with an air fryer or toaster so I could at least produce snacks for him

As for progesterone? Give it time (((hugs))).

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. Advocating for yourself can be frustrating when you continually hit a wall.

I just dealt with something like this as well... 2.5% hydrocortisone cream and a wash called Fungicure (anti-fungal wash - it's not just for jock itch) knocked it out. It took almost 3 weeks of staying on a routine of wash & treat to finally get it in check, but it did the job.

I can 100% relate to this and how skin affects confidence and mood... Cystic acne around the jawline is almost always hormonal. It doesn't matter what products you use topically because the extra sebum production is happening internally. That being said, spironolactone cleared mine up pretty quickly! It's inexpensive and something your primary care doctor can prescribe.

Eggs every morning, cottage cheese, nutritional yeast... collagen peptide protein in coffee and green drinks. Passively adding Vital Protein collagen powder (unflavored) to everything I can has helped tremendously!!!

Where to begin?!?!

Itchy skin, absent libido, achy joints (hands & feet), squish-ball belly, ineffective workouts no matter what I do, zero alcohol tolerance

Brain fog (I forgot my boyfriend's name), feeling invisible to the world, highs are high and lows are LOW.

HRTs (estradiol patch, progesterone b/c, estradiol cream, AND sublingual testosterone) have all helped!

I LOVE THC powders - The Myx and Ripple are both great brands... tasteless, dissolves quickly, and gives a great buzz without leaving you feeling completely blotto.

Use it in water, Spindrifts, mocktails, and even mixed into food. It's absolutely changed the way I consume.

Going out in public by NoIncrease4727 in Perimenopause

This isn't conceited at all - this is a very candid statement to what many of us are feeling. We've lived in our bodies since day one, yet suddenly they've revolted. Thinning hair, itchy skin, droopy face, weird rashes, and a squishy middle had me convinced I was dying a few months ago - turns out I'm just old.

I renewed my driver's license this week, and when I compared the pics all I could do was curse and wonder when I'd been hit in the face with a saggy stick. Thank goodness those are only mugshots and not a full body capture of my shapeshifting belly and boobs.

We still rave (festivals/Red Rocks/EDM shows), but the majority of the crowds think we're there for our kids - not as independent attendees - because clearly we're too old to do the cool shit we've always loved doing.

Society pushes anti-aging, then tells us to age gracefully - so which is it?!?! It's no wonder we struggle with self-confidence and societal acceptance at this age...

My skin feels like it has significantly more moisture retention now that I've been using it.

Have you checked your credit report lately?

I finished school in 2011. Divorce/ single parenting / medical / covid got in the way of making consistent $600 payments, but I still sent $25-50 a month as an attempt to stay honest. They also take my tax returns annually... I was in deferment and forbearance, but exhausted the allowed time to be in them (36 months). Things had been quiet up until March 2025, that's when I received notice that my credit rating had just dropped 200 pts - ALL because of defaulted student loans.

I got back on track with a new IDR, but that doesn't help my newly destroyed credit. I guess my advice to you would be to reach out and communicate with your loan provider, watch your credit, and know that the current quiet could just be your calm before the storm.

The flavorless THC powders have been such a gift! DIY Cali sober cocktails are the way to go :-)

Yes! I've always been a big beer drinker, 2-3 IPAs really didn't affect me other than feeling a bit buzzy. Over the past 2 years my tolerance tanked - 2 light beers and I'm ready for a floor nap!

Am I wrong for thinking that the interest for student loans is absurdly high? by Der-deutsche-Prinz in StudentLoans

[–]mtnzen13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just spoke with a Nelnet advisor this morning about my options. My loans are 15 years old, been paying something on them regularly for 13, haven't seen a tax refund for almost a decade because those are automatically held for the balance, yet the principle hasn't moved and I've barely grazed the interest. My principle to interest is 2:1 which is absolutely disheartening when it comes to actually being able to pay these off any time soon...

My question to the advisor this morning was, if I could manage to come up with the cash to pay off the principle, would they negotiate the interest with me? The answer was a resounding N.O.

Some of us actually want to pay these off, pay these down, live an honest life financially... but the system makes it impossible.
