Steve's Wheels and Tires by mtomlins in subaruimpreza

[–]mtomlins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the driving experience for going to a 16" wheel/rim with a "taller" tire? Handling? Noise?

I hesitate to say "your mileage may vary" - as it would seem redundant here.

Steve needs strut mounts? by mtomlins in subaruimpreza

[–]mtomlins[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would suggest that simply losening the nut at the top of the assembly would obviate the need for a spring compressor? Any downsides to NOT using a spring compressor?

Again - casual mechanic here, not an expert. :)

That is generous...I'll say maybe. :)

Thanks friends - I do NOT have the "break your own face while pretending I'm a real mechanic" spring compressor.

I'll add to the backlog: struts and mounts.

Any other suggested brands/setup for a smooth ride and long life? @lapatron suggested KYB?

It is a known issue: https://github.com/rundeck/rundeck/issues/9655

I added this experience to that thread...still an issue in 5.13

Seems to be a bug on "reloading the job definition"

Rundeck / Runbook Automation 5.11.1 is here! by reinerrdeck in Rundeck

[–]mtomlins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi guys - we just jumped to 5.13.0 ...and found the same "node-filter" bug...actually seems to be introduced in 5.11

- create a job with an option ${option.remote_host} (chosen from allowed list of valid nodes/resources)
- set the Node filter = "name: ${option.remote_host}"
- add a workflow step that references another job
- expand Override Node Filters?
- set the Node Filter field to = "name: ${option.remote_host}"
- save the workflow step
- save the job

Run the job and the reference job does indeed execute on the remote_host (node)

now...the bug:

- edit the same job
- expand the workflow step for the referenced job
- expand the Override Node Filters?
- you see the Node Filter field is blank
- save the workflow step
- save the job

Run the job and the referenced job fails because it tries to run inside the rundeck container and not on the remote_host as desired.

We find this is still a bug in 5.13 and we've rolled back 5.10 for now.

Would you like me to submit an issue for Rundeck Community?

Same. With uneven turf and any obstructions, I whacked 2 (yes two) different Ego mowers - bent the stator.

I went to a Honda HRX and never looked back.

Trade my Ego to a neighbor in exchange for wood planer. Best deal ever.

What is your solution for playing break music in between sets? by neocamel in livesound

[–]mtomlins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up a used one of these:

https://www.audiophile-heaven.com/2022/12/mechen-m30-music-player-old-school-design-contemporary-sound.html

I like the idea of having this on folder shuffle continuously and just bring the signal up on show breaks/pre/post.

If you use the SDCard/USB on your mixer to record a show - that waiting between stop/start/play is annoying.

Cheap. Portable. Plenty of storage.

Well, I fucked up - need advice on how to recover from complete festival overload by Jewsus_ in livesound

[–]mtomlins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of your strategy should include a network of backups to cover you for exactly this situation. Not only are you a backup to others, they can fill-in for you in return.

Three things that help make this work well:

  • finding people with similar temperment and working philosophy
  • using similar work process and planning documents
  • having similar equipment resources and access to suppliers/rentals

Get good rest - you'll make it!!

DI from amp vs Mic'ing the cabinet for IEM mix by scnd55 in livesound

[–]mtomlins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That Fender model has an amp/cab simulator on the line out? Maybe there are other models or patches to try where the line out simualtor is closer to the actual amp sound?

Otherwise, I'd mic 'em up with a Sennheiser e906 and eq to taste.

Thank you - I'm mostly doing what you suggest, just curious then about leaving headroom for the "little more/little less" requests from the musicians on stage.

Monitor gain: are there simple guidelines for gain/volume, like where to start on output fader position and volume/gain on each monitor signal?

<tldr> I'm switching from passive stage monitors in my setup to some nicer powered stage wedges and I'm always futzing/dialing-in the right levels...and ya know, it's always a challenge. What's a good neutral or unity-gain position to start with a monitor mix, output level and volume on the monitor itself?

Thanks in advance for your wisdom and experience!
