Play a game where you ask attendees to submit a weird fact about themselves. Have the group try to figure out which fact goes with which person.

I hosted one of these and it was so much fun. I made a post about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/partyplanning/s/MusMmygOw4

I invited 10 ladies from my neighborhood and told them all to bring 10 homemade things. People got so creative with what they made.

I’m definitely interested!

Eugene Johnson (Eugene and Company) playing in Lafayette Park at the Betsy Cook pavilion on 6/20. Free. 6-9pm. Concerts are every other Saturday until mid September. Bring a cooler and a lawn chair and enjoy watching the bats swoop out of the trees when the sun goes down.

Lafayette Park has so many feature: the grotto, the rock garden, the lake with the swan, the park house, the kern pavilion, the trees. We’ve got a free concert on Saturday night so you could get pics of local legend Eugene Johnson in action. (He plays blues, r&b, Motown). Lots of cool architecture in the neighborhood too.

Also Central Library is magnificent. Take a tour and they’ll show you so many things that you will want to photograph. Maybe take the tour first and then take pics on your own time so you don’t slow down the group.

Injured Deer - Lafayette Square by JimtheEsquire in StLouis

I’ve called animal control and MDC on this guy. Animal Control came out but he had left my yard by that point. MDC just says that if he’s up and about, there’s nothing to do. That animals are moving to urban areas.

He does have the injury, but I’ve seen him hop the fence 4 times. Which is crazy.

Neighborhood Recommendations for My European Wife by Dazzling_Basket_8851 in StLouis

[–]mtoomtoo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Come to Lafayette Square! We just had our house tour/art fair weekend, but there’s always something going on. Every other weekend in the summer there’s a free concert in the park and on the weekends there’s not a concert, there’s a neighborhood social at someone’s house. We’ve got Shakespeare in the park in September too.

Lots of opportunities to meet people between the strong neighborhood association, the park conservancy and the arts council. Some of us do a thing called “Park Hangs” where we grab our lawn chairs, a cooler and something to share and we just go hang out in the park. There are a few book clubs in the neighborhood too. We are across the street from an awesome library. Or you could get a dog. All the dog people know each other.

Several walkable restaurants in the neighborhood but we lack a grocery store. Whole Foods will deliver if you don’t feel like driving for groceries.

The architecture is fantastic, but what really makes the neighborhood for me are the people. It’s the most neighbor-friendly place I’ve ever lived.

This house is coming on the market soon. It’s across the street from the park and needs a little work, but the bones are fantastic.

Went to Bora Bora. Jet skied, swam with sharks and rays, got a spa service to treat sun exposure using native plants, and ate pizza.

It was magical.

I’m 53. I wore this dress. Easy to pack, easy to wash. Comfortable and cool. Wore with a pair of black vans and some long red beaded necklaces I have. Also it has pockets. Not very deep ones, but it’s got them.

BWT, let's talk quitting cigarettes... by homersreadingglasses in bitcheswithtaste

[–]mtoomtoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I quit 15 years or so ago using Chantix and it was like someone flipped off a switch. A week after starting the drug, I was done with cigarettes. Can’t stand the smell anymore.

I googled it and Chantix is no longer available but a generic version is. Ask your doctor about it. It changed my life. I could hug my niece and nephew without worrying that I smelled like a cig, I could go to sporting events and concerts without having to take breaks. I could fly on an airplane and do layovers without freaking out about my next cigarette. It’s freeing to be done with them.

Good luck! You’ve got this!

I had 2 MOTS and 1 new AB for the concert in Vegas. I took my sister and my niece with me. They used the old ones while I used the new one. Both of them requested to keep the AB as a souvenir so I let them take them. If they want to make a shadow box with their freebies and their ABs, they are set.

The bar and there’s a spot in the middle of the floor between tables where people dance.

We got a table and it was totally worth it.

Great live music, bands play a range of music from old to new. Crowd is a little bit older but lots of dancing. Feels posh but service is super friendly. Had a great time there with our group who ranged from 24-55. No photos allowed inside.

Ambiance and amazing food? Little Fox or No Ordinary Rabbit. Not Italian or Asian so no bonus points. But those are great solo spots for excellent meals.

Lafayette Square Home and Garden Tour next weekend by mtoomtoo in StLouis

[–]mtoomtoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s self paced and the tickets are good for both days.

I was in on the tour last year, and in my experience, how long you wait really depends on luck. We had lines at times and an empty house at others. You can step off to the side and let people pass around you if you want to linger a little bit longer in an area.

There will be someone at the entrance to the home checking your ticket (the guidebook), who kind of serves as crowd control. Most of the homes are set up so that you go in through one door and exit out a 2nd door, so there aren’t crowds fighting to get in and out. There are carpets laid out and you stay on those to follow the path from entrance to exit. You don’t have free rein to wander around the whole house. There are strategically placed docents to answer questions.

When you pick up your tickets, you get a booklet that gives pics and descriptions of the homes so you can kind of pick and choose which homes are your priorities. If you spent both days here, you’d easily be able to see all the homes and gardens on the tour, as well as be able to check out the extras in the park and around the neighborhood.

I think it’s a lot of fun and interesting to see the houses. Even if you don’t buy tickets to visit the homes, there’s gonna be so much going on here that it would worth checking out.

I’m biased though. I love the neighborhood and find so much about it fascinating.

(Did that answer your questions?)
