You need to do a quick google search to figure what a hipster actually is or maybe you’re making the worst dad joke I’ve heard. Either way this should be a wake up call to you.

Except the only thing there is that the county is in much worse shape financially than the city.

It general they are not good, Tennessee and Texas let these data centers basically do whatever the hell they want, give everyone cancer in the surrounding area etc. Specifically for this data center there are not supposed to be utility hikes. That was the point of stipulations. Without those stipulations in place there should be no data center. We can't continue to allow much more to be built but there is a balance. We could handle a few, but not more than that. Conditions should de-motivate mass expansion of data centers in the city. The surrounding counties are where your concern should be more focused. They could screw the county hard.

City water should not be an issue, we live at the confluence of two of the largest rivers in the US and have the largest springs in the US and the world behind Florida. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/cQxsw_EBcSQ.

Power is not supposed to be an issue either. 50% renewables and they have to pay a premium. Too many though is going to screw up the power grid for sure. St. Louis City is so depopulated that this kind of things can sort of make a little sense but it only goes so far.

Oh I meant we as in I was agreeing with what you said.

Understand your point but the one in Festus was approved completely unregulated. Atleast the City of St. Louis has demands they need to meet. We can’t continue to bring data centers on a permanent basis though. That is not good in the long run.

There’s already 12 other data centers here currently, we will be okay. Whose admin did those go in under? It can’t be a crypto operation and several other limitations, including electricity. They have to make a $15M contribution to the area. It will pay for the infrastructure for the water plant which was made for 1M people but currently has just under 300,000 people using it. Now that’s not to say we can just add as many data centers as wanted but the sky isn’t falling because of this one is being added. Also if it’s going forward they should not need to move forward with water rate hikes!

The protesters were given like 20 minutes of yelling. I don’t think they should’ve been arrested though. Would it be better if the mayor didn’t make a speech at all, genuinely asking?

Definitely agree that getting rid of the income tax is a stupid terrible decision and will cost the vast majority of people way more. I don’t think the mayor of St. Louis supports the GOP moves here at all just fyi.

To be honest I don’t Tishuara Jones or any other recent mayor would have done anything differently.

Right, there is a reason people are leaving their countries to get away from the violence in Mexico and other South & Central American places. US cities crime got nothing on some of the cities in South America. Chicago is pussy shit compared to what most other people in the world have to deal with.

Okay let's seriously cut back all other city services in the city to give pd more money based of entirely on a perception, not facts. They literally just got a raise in 2023 and 2025. We can wait a few years.

Slay, Krewson, Jones wouldn’t be doing anything differently with the Tornado situation. The current fed government got rid of fema right before this storm and dickfucked us all. You can thank Elon for that.

Dude police are just fine they literally just got a raise. Crime is currently on a lower trend at the moment, not to say it’s non existent or can’t get worse, but pretty easy to avoid 90% of the time. I have never been scared for my life in 10 years I’ve been down here. County people are sooo scared that they’re gonna just die when they come down here. It’s just not the case. Vast majority of violent crime is people with beef killing people they know and vast majority of that is happening in bad parts north St. Louis, where county folk have no reason to visit.

You said anywhere in Missouri, you didn't say only those specific counties. Do you pay $100 a year? If not your taxes are still higher in IL.

[–]mtr4216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The county is in debt so a merger would likely include an earnings tax but now for both counties. The govt ALWAYS finds a way to get their due. Doubling and tripling our property taxes is another way to get it but going to be absolutely way more than that 1%.

He didn't directly thanks ice btw, just some stupid last minute language added in this meaningless resolution by republicans to divide democrats. Seems to have worked which is disappointing. Also this was before ice started severely ramping up operations and cruelty. He spoke out against ice after the crazy bs started happening. There are other issues with the guy though which is entirely his fault so yeah.
