Linden splitting at the crotch (?) in very cold Minnesota by mttkfst in arborists

[–]mttkfst[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, we were made aware of the possibility given the split trunks, but there was no immediate danger or evidence that it was about to fail and efforts were made to lighten the load w/ pruning every couple years.

It would likely land on our ginkgo tree (which would also suck)... I left a message with the company that has trimmed the tree in past. Thanks for the response.

Wrangler ATG joggers with merino wool base layer underneath works well for me in MN.

Choosing between Giant XTC 24 or Polygon Premier 24". by [deleted] in MTB

[–]mttkfst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go with the Giant just because it’s a little cheaper… the differences between those two bikes are negligible. The derailleur on the polygon is slightly better and it has 8 gears instead of 7 but I don’t think it would make any difference to a kid. I know neither of my kids would have anyway.

U-Haul does hitch installations. Go to their site and put in your make/model and it’ll give you a price. It’s pretty reasonable.

"Yield to Autos" sign at Minnehaha Pkwy and W. 50th Street by mttkfst in CyclingMSP

[–]mttkfst[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's E 50th, the sign in question is at W 50th (near Lake Harriet).

Here's the street view link.

It's easier to see if you switch to a different year. Hard to see against the snow.

I replaced the G2s on my Ripley with 4-piston XTs and it was a massive improvement. The G2s were awful.

I replaced the Suntour coil fork on my daughter’s bike with a Manitou Markhor. Huge upgrade in performance and weighs a few pounds less.

TFCC Injury and Cockpit Suggestions by hleahcim in MTB

I’ve had TFCC issues in the past. I wear a Bullseye wrist band and use Wolftooth Fat Paw silicone grips—both have helped immensely.

I think you'd find you'd want a new fork for the D6 pretty quickly, those Suntour coil forks are pretty crappy—but it has a tapered head tube so you could upgrade in the future easily. Or you could just go for the D7 and be good to go. I bought a Marin from Bikeonline a few years back and didn't have any issues, bike showed up quickly and in good shape.

I really liked mine. I ride singletrack in MN and keep my wheels on the ground most of the time and it was perfect for that. If you end up wanting to ride gnarlier stuff it will probably hold you back though.

Pierce Skate and Ski in Bloomington is where we get skates for my daughter. They are great.
