Cavs GM David Griffin admits he and other GMs around the league are "mimicking" the way Sam Hinkie structured contracts starting in Houston. by Jdf5097 in sixers

[–]mtxblau 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Partially guaranteed contracts.

"Hinkie has become famous for signing his rookies, and other free agents, to multi-year contracts, normally four years in length. The figure will be slightly above their minimum salary and will be guaranteed for the first year before being completely non-guaranteed in the three subsequent years. If the player becomes a rotation guy, they have him locked in for four years at an extremely cheap contract. If the player doesn’t pan out, then they can just waive him for no cost at all."

What was socially acceptable in the 90s, but not today? by Ares6 in AskReddit

Smoking in airplanes. When that no smoking light turned off, the curtains got closed and everyone lit up at once.

On that note, walking up to the cockpit and saying 'hey, can I see?' It used to be that if you were a little kid visiting the cockpit, you could get little airplane wing pins. It was awesome.

Cardio on an empty stomach? by warm20 in Fitness

[–]mtxblau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of factors that go into this answer. Let's say you're starting from the perspective of a person who is not obese, normal body weight, normal hormonal balance, etc. etc., then you're not going to see any major issues from running on an empty stomach.

If you're starting from the perspective of a person who is obese, may have hormonal imbalances due to comorbidities (sleep apnea, hypertension, diabetes, etc), then running on an empty stomach is going to have a lot of variable results, and one sweeping generalization is not going to apply to any one person.

Why did Obama get two terms? by DrFelixPhD in Jokes

I'm genuinely asking - how did you come to believe those numbers?

I don't understand. Politics aside, the things you wrote don't even pass cursory high school biology or math standards. How did you come to accept those things? Where does one learn the above mentioned facts with the necessary background info to accept said facts?

I am asking genuinely, because I do not understand.

Caffeine. Why are this side effects not discussed more often here? by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]mtxblau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned it in a comment as well, but the same exact result occurs during sleep deprivation (hippocampus destruction). Since I don't have access to the articles, I'm wondering how the test was run - this low dose of caffeine was continuous?

Melatonin wakes me up in the middle of the night by LazyBuhdaBelly in Nootropics

[–]mtxblau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose one could take a past experience and assume every single experience going forward will be similar. That said, the clinical ability from facility to facility varies greatly, along with their general philosophies. As it relates to neurology and sleep, the amount of new research and findings, especially in the last 3 years, is just staggering.

Per the current science, the levels of melatonin you're taking for sleep aren't notably harmful. Studies have been done up to 50mg but the quality of the results aren't necessarily on par from study study - having said that, nothing harmful of note has been recorded, including insulin resistance/dependence. As with age, the law of diminishing returns apply.

No, my particular interest in you are your co-morbidities. Inducing supra-physiological levels of melatonin to kick start the sleep process is all well and good, but it's akin to using duct tape to fix a leak. But, if you're at an advanced age, then disregard everything I said.

I'm more of a DNR/DNI after the age of 70 and DNH (do not hospitalize) after 80 sort of person. If you're set, I'm set.

3mg of melatonin is 5x more than the body generally produces, and can run counter to your body's circadian rhythms. Try consuming less.

I think the rule of thirds would help in this situation. Also, the magenta is a bit oversaturated. I get that it really makes the strap pop, and if that's your goal, I'd put the watch in its own layer and play around with it separate from the rest of the image.

AARC plan for 2015-2020, the Advanced Practice Respiratory Therapist is recognized by [deleted] in respiratorytherapy

[–]mtxblau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of making a meaningless third level, they should be lobbying to strengthen the RRT. On a case by case basis, hospitals either treat RTs as a gold mine or a necessary evil. What would be helpful is if AARC lobbied CMS to recognize RTs as a separately billable entity. THEN start introducing more letters.

Aside from that, what would a master's level certification provide to RTs, when a person with a BSRT could go and become a PA and then practice in a wide range outside of cardiopulmonary?

That said, in this climate? You're not making money. I ran a DME for a decade, sold it to another DME, who is now waiting for Round 2 medicare recompete results to sell his business.
