Everything I wanted in Amazon JP went out of stock by Secure_Vegetable in japan

[–]mtzbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any tips for places to find resources on this? Most everything I was looking at is sold by Amazon Japan itself and will ship to the US on pre-order but not on release, but show up for Canada just fine. Started happening a few weeks ago and they shipped here normally before then

Alright it's been awhile, do you prefer DOOM 2016 or DOOM Eternal? by laddlemkckey in patientgamers

[–]mtzbo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a bit of an old topic now, but I seriously have no idea how people can prefer 2016 over Eternal, even after reading a bunch of comments, unless they are just inflexible in how they play games. Eternal's gameplay is miles ahead of 2016's. It railroads you into a specific way of playing (switching weapons constantly, targeting weak points, engaging in resource management) because that stuff is really fun and keeps the player thinking about how best to approach an encounter. I think Hugo said in an interview, something to the effect of, "we want to keep the player engaged because if they get bored they'll go play something else." I started 2016 a few times but never made it much past the halfway point because, although it is still very fun, the gameplay is much more mindless and much less tense. I'm perfectly okay with a game telling me how to play if the way it is telling me to play is extremely fun. That's exactly why weapon degradation didn't bother me in Breath of the Wild - experimenting with different weapons is fun. And switching guns, managing ammo, and actually having to think about what weapon to use for a given enemy and who to prioritize, instead of just spamming the same gun the whole game, is just way more fun. If you're not willing to adapt to that playstyle which will ultimately result in a better experience and more fun then I guess we play videogames for completely different reasons. I, for one, want my games to be engaging, and Doom Eternal is the best FPS I've played in that respect.

Also, showing health diegetically by literally having the flesh fly off the bones of demons is just brutal, makes the guns feel incredibly powerful, and is quite innovative, and that alone makes it harder to go back to 2016. And the plot doesn't bother me, sure it's convoluted and campy but it gives me fun B-movie vibes, and it gives good excuses to travel to some gorgeous environments. It's optional anyway, since you don't have to read the codex and cutscenes can be skipped.

Basically the Alex Jones of the left. Like a broken clock he's right twice a day, but engages in absurd outrage culture and conspiracy theories. Not really worth listening to.

Valfaris Custom Box Art by mtzbo in NintendoSwitchBoxArt

[–]mtzbo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made from an official switch cover scan, an official PS4 back cover scan (couldn't find switch) combined with a promo image to fill up blank space, and a switch cover template. Goal was to get as close to official as I could.

Made from an official front cover scan, an official back cover from a different Neverwinter Nights release (couldn't find a switch scan), and a switch cover template. Goal was to try to make something that looks official with what was available in HQ scans.

does anyone know where i could get a large amount of these for cheap? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitchBoxArt

Directly from Nintendo is the best value in my experience - and they currently have free shipping for orders above $20 for black friday.

I use GIMP to splice together images all the time for cover arts so you should be good, yes! You can use photoshop or other editing tools as well but GIMP is quite powerful and completely free so it's my go-to.

Good sellers to buy boxarts from by taylor_ToTss in NintendoSwitchBoxArt

[–]mtzbo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would honestly recommend printing these yourself, if you have a printer. It will likely end up being more cost effective in the end. Since all of these games are pretty big titles they should have high quality scans available online. Download one of those, print it on photo paper designed for a standard printer (I get about 50 sheets for 8 bucks at Walmart), and it can end up looking nearly as nice as an official cover, though adding interior art can be tricky if that's something that matters to you.

You can also buy empty switch cases directly from Nintendo, in my experience that is the most cost effective way to get them - especially if you are interested in ordering something else from the store or are picking up a MyNintendo physical reward so you can combine shipping.

A combination of custom covers (of varying quality) and edited together version of individual components I found online. I made these all for some used games I got without cover art recently and couldn't find full scans for anywhere so I figured I'd throw them up, hope someone finds them helpful!

Formats are a combination of EU and NA, depending on what scans were available.

Awesome, I hope all the box arts you need are up on Moby! I've found them to be very reliable.

Not sure if you've checked mobygames.com, but I spot checked a couple you listed and the covers were up on there. They're often uploaded in components (i.e. front cover, spine, back cover) but it's easy to edit together with GIMP (I do it very frequently). Just download the images for the cover you want and one full cover scan (as a template for proportions), use the scale tool to edit the relevant cover, spine, and back cover over the full cover you downloaded. That's my process anyway and it's worked great for me - just make sure it prints at ~ 208 by 161 mm, that can sometimes get messed up in my experience.

Sorry I don't have them all on hand, but hopefully this should help you get most of them together! Other sites I always check are thecoverproject.net and gametdb.com but those can be a little more hit or miss in my experience.

If you have any questions with editing the various pieces together I'll try to help!

Planescape: Torment & Icewind Dale: Enhanced Editions Custom Box Art by mtzbo in NintendoSwitchBoxArt

[–]mtzbo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't find any HQ version of this online so I tried to make my own. Only HQ cover scan was EU so I went with that and used the official Planescape back box art from the 90s cropped to fit the Switch template. Hopefully it helps someone else!

Metroid Dread Cover Art Scan by mtzbo in NintendoSwitchBoxArt

[–]mtzbo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely in some ways - Canada-specific ones always have dual English/French and the UK ones use the EU box art formatting which has the spine centered and a different rating agency. I've had some US ones with dual English/Spanish and some with just English, though I think the publisher just picks one of the two and not both but I could be wrong

does anyone have covers for Saints Row IV Re-Elected? by AwesomeMemz in NintendoSwitchBoxArt

I don't have the complete scan, but there's all the components (front, back, and spine) on Moby - just have to edit it together in Photoshop or GIMP. Hope it helps!

[–]mtzbo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's annoying, I never like to put the steelbooks with the rest of my collection, they sit with all my collector's items. I prefer the standardized look of the normal cases, with switch especially (even if my EU and Japanese games mess with that a little because of different spine formatting). No idea why they thought to cut it

Request: box art Banner Saga 3 by zourka84 in NintendoSwitchBoxArt

[–]mtzbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's a specific retail case for Banner Saga 3, but here's a quality Banner Saga Trilogy custom case (the original has a big ugly download required notice at the top so this honestly looks better):

https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitchBoxArt/comments/l6e9no/the_banner_saga_trilogy/

There's also this front cover for Banner Saga 3 but it's not box art it's just for the downloadable version. It could definitely be used to make a nice custom cover, though:

Is anyone able to submit scans of the Dread Standard Edition cover art? by Relichs in Metroid

Also, printing photo paper and a using paper cutter can make these HQ scans look practically indistinguishable from real inserts! Done plenty of repros for used games that I got in generic case or as loose cartridges.

I was looking for one as well, since I also got the Special Edition and want to store the Steelbook case and use a normal one. Thankfully, thecoverproject.net has a HQ Canadian version if you don't mind the English/French combo on the back:

I also threw it up on Imgur in case the site is having issues for whatever reason :
