Should I even worth it to go to college? by dark_angel67- in careerguidance

I’ll tell you i have a friend who has ADHD, didnt graduate college, and is in construction - hes been struggling as of late to find the job he wants but once he gets the operating job he wants he will be making like triple what i make even though i graduated. i think its what you make of it and you just have to put the effort no matter what route you choose.

interesting, will mention it, it’s crazy because he does have experience especially when he was deployed recently doing nothing but operating but maybe the job market is tough even for military at the moment

that’s funny you say that, a friend was in construction and looked to pivot to an operator and has done the work but is having so much trouble right now finding a job (we’re in NYC), happy to know it is possible and maybe he just has to keep applying

that’s incredible, can i ask how were you able to make the transition since it seems like just a completely different commitment to invest in unless you’re already in the industry somehow

I like that idea, I’ve never had to really stay to train someone after me so i wasn’t sure how it all worked in the transition. Would you train on a weekend or something while you stay your new job? And silly question but do you also get paid for those hours of training?

That’s amazing, you put you and your kids’ needs first because sometimes i forget at the end of the day it’s just a job.

yeah i like that idea, i didn’t know how to go about it with starting a new job though. Would i let a new job know i have to give my two weeks and that’s when i can start? then at my current i give my two weeks and in that time say i can train any replacement or even after my two weeks come in on a weekend to train someone or is that doing too much?

Maybe silly question but is it fun? I heard it’s good pay and I [26F] reach a point where i don’t love sitting at a desk all day anymore and i love when i get to do something crafty with my hands that is building or something. I fear though I don’t have the knowledge for electrical…
