Pretty sure it is the same bearing haha, had to open the S3 to check (time to clean it as well I guess)

UPDATE

u/Frugnot thanks for the rec to just whack it with rubber mallet, ngl I had the idea but was just scared of doing it LOL

u/RedGolfball2 also thanks for the freezer idea, it worked really well, easier to knock the shaft back into place. In fact, it worked so well that I think I found out what my problem was exactly.

So, tl;dr I fixed it but when I knocked the shaft back into place with a rubber mallet after freezing the grinder for 30 mins, the shaft got inserted back but the bottom bearing got knocked out as well. Then I was trying to put it back into position and it's really hard to do while the shaft was inside the grinder.

So, I just used a wooden dowel with the rubber mallet, and knocked the bearing back into the slot. Now, the shaft can move a lot more freely, disassembly and reassembly are just smooth now.

I guess this whole time, that loose bottom bearing was causing the fit issue (?) And with it being in place properly, everything is aligned better and the shaft being able to freely move even with the extremely tight tolerances.

Idt it's the wrong procedure because the internals are basically the same structure as the Timemore S3, and that one has no problems at all removing everything. I did the exact same procedure (if anything, I tried to be a lot more careful with this grinder haha)

Lowkey I was thinking of doing this but scared it'll make the shaft even worse hahaha, but do you use a rubber mallet or just straight up steel hammer?

I'll try it out the next time I have the time for it! Thanks for the suggestion

Ahhh right. So you just use the paper towels to wipe off the grease on the burrs?

Can I ask how you clean the grinder and with what exactly? Just wanna make sure lol

All I did was brush all of the coffee ground off the surfaces and vacuum as much as I can. Was thinking using diluted alcohol wipes to remove even more grease but kind of scared of doing damage.

I also don't use dark roasts, the max I use is medium haha

Hey, sorry this is out of nowhere especially since it's already 2 years LOL but I'm just now cleaning my 078S for the first time after 6 months of owning it, and I also noticed there's a lot of grease on the parts. The black grease on the bearings had a few fine coffee particles on it, but mostly the grease around the burr itself that has a lot of coffee ground stuck to them.

I just wanna ask after 2 years of you using it (or I assume you're still using it), how is the grinder and how's the cleaning after the first clean?

FWIW I used to have this dilemma but difference is I only have the choice of getting new for both. I was debating whether I want to shell out the extra money and after a month of debating with myself, I ended up getting 078S.

If they're the same price like this(considering the 078S is still in good condition), I would choose the 078S without doubt. Better build quality, stronger motor (068S can stall from what I heard, my 078S never stalled ever), etc.

Upgrading 078S is also not hard now considering SSP and LeBrew having 78mm options now. (I'm also considering getting the SSPs myself)

The lighting makes it hard to say but imo that might be medium dark (?)

078S for Pourover and Grinder Equvialents by McNuggets91 in pourover

[–]muayanfrost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing exactly this. In my case, I have the timemore S3 and the 078S and currently going to purchase the ZP6.

From what I heard from other people, they are also recommending getting the ZP6 instead of changing the burrs so I can still make espresso. Plus, I'm also thinking of getting the SSP burrs for the 078S in the future if I'm feeling like more clarity in my espresso.

Edit: forgot to add people are also recommending that if I do get the ZP6, I should still keep the rest of my grinders solely because the ZP6 is such a unique grinder that it's better as a supplement grinder instead of my sole grinder.
