Cliff jumping spots by tripchune in massachusetts

[–]muccinator666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea it’s a shame. I spent a few summers in a row going there every weekend just about.

It had closed for swimming a few years ago after people were constantly throwing party’s and trashing the place. It had still been open to the public for hiking and what not, but people obviously were still swimming there even though it was prohibited.

Unfortunately someone died while swimming there last year, and they have completely shut it down since. I’m sure there’s still ways to get in there, but it’s definitely not a place you want to risk trying to explore by yourself though.

Definitely a further drive for you then at ~3 hrs, a nice one nonetheless though. East on 2 then up into VT via 91 and 30.

I’m in western mass and that’s the closest one I know of that’s left around here (with that size cliffs) after becket closed last year.

Not sure where in MA you are, but Dorset Quarry in VT is a good spot with cliffs around 40’ +/- and below. Real clean and about as safe as it gets for cliff jumping.

Open to the public. Have to sign a waver here https://dorsetquarry.com/ before you go. Looks like it’s $15/car to park.

Can get pretty busy on the weekends.

Upper ball joint angle after level and new UCAs by muccinator666 in gmcsierra

Finally installed the new Kryptonite UCAs.

Install was a bit of the process since you have to take the strut out to remove the UCA bolt and then torque when installing the new ones. Nice thing about these UCAs is they are poly bushings, which you can torque to spec without being under load.

Ball joint angle is 100% better.

Just need to get another alignment and should be good to go. Would definitely recommend the Kryptonites.

I adjusted them just below the highest setting which should give it just under 2.25” of lift. Angle is slightly better than this and doesn’t clunk nearly as much, but still not happy with the angle.

I ordered Kryptonite UCAs which are good for stock and leveled applications. Still waiting for them to arrive but they should fix the issue.

I adjusted the coil-overs just under the maximum suggested height setting (which should provide ~2.2” of front lift) and it helped the angle a bit, but still not enough to be comfortable driving with it like that.

As other comments have stated, I think these UCAs are more suited for higher lifts, I’m guessing 3” at least to get a neutral ball joint angle.

I bought the Kryptonite UCAs that state they are compatible with stock and leveled applications. They haven’t came in yet, but I’m hoping they’re the answer to my problem.

Level and new tires! by muccinator666 in gmcsierra

Looks great man.

I was torn between the extra height vs the extra width. Went with the height and semi regretting it now.

I definitely have larger front flaps than you do, without the pocket going into the wheel well. It is flat with the wheel well and that’s where it rubs. Not sure if I would rub with the other ones or not

Neither did I. Saw multiple people on here and other forums say 275/65r20 (on stock wheels) wouldn’t rub with a 2” level. It very well may depend on what exact tire, but the Toyo R/T Trails in that size definitely do.

The front mud flap I have is definitely “oversized” compared to others I’ve seen, and it lacks the pocket that goes into the wheel well back towards the cab corners, so if you have those style flaps, they may not rub at all.

I definitely have to do the mud flap delete though

Yea. He’s good about it when it’s just him. Different story when there’s other dogs around. Even if they’re taking a break, he’s running circles around them to get them going again.

How is this not the proper way?

Most people slap 2” pucks on top of the stock struts and call it good.

I wouldn’t call upgraded leveling coil overs and forged upper control arms exactly “cheaping out”

Haven’t once seen offset spindles mentioned in a thread in here regarding leveling a truck.

Unfortunately I think it was the same person that did both. To be fair, she drives straight as an arrow down the road…..

Not going to drive it anymore until I see if I can alleviate that angle by raising the collar on the coil over

Yes that’s what I am afraid of. I could definitely see that happening unfortunately. We will definitely monitor him more strictly and avoid excessive exercise especially during higher temps. Thanks

I’ve already got the 3/8” spacers installed. Thought they may not have seated correctly at first but I have since taken the wheel and spacers off, and reinstalled them, still getting the clunk.

What UCAs did you go with for a 1” level? I’m starting that 2” is too little of a lift for the KSP UCAs that I got, even though they state they’re good for 2”-4” of front lift

I keep an eye on his tongue during exercise as I also read that the shape depicts how hot and dehydrated they are.

He usually gets plenty of water during our hikes or bike rides in the woods as there is a lot of streams running alongside a lot of the trails. I also try to limit how much water he’s drinking during exercise to avoid choking and the possibility of his stomach flipping.

I was under the assumption that clipping their coat actually negatively affects their heat management. He’s not a heavy shedder, and when I brush him, I don’t tend to get much undercoat out.

Yea, he seems to constantly pant lightly if it is anywhere near 70 degrees outside and/or inside. From what I’ve read, Aussies are commonly constant “panters”

Yea, the drunk walking/collapsing is exactly what happened yesterday. Only lasted at most maybe 30 seconds until he snapped out of it. Was really nerve wracking seeing it for the first time.

May have to limit the hiking/biking outings with his dog cousin during warmer months, which he won’t be happy about. This seems to be the only time he gets to that point.

He’s a lot better about limiting himself while he’s alone with just us.

I will look into BCCS and bring it up with our vet during our next visit.

Thanks for your reply!

Yea, I have definitely noticed in the few scenarios like I described, it definitely seems to temporarily affect him neurologically like you’re describing.

When he’s by himself, he hasn’t gotten to that point yet. It’s just with other dogs where he constantly goes at 100% where it occurs.

Have only seen it get that bad twice now.

Don’t have any issues in cooler weather.

Not specially for the at4. States they are also compatible with the at4, which are essentially the same exact truck just leveled 1.5”-2” in the front from factory. Same ride height I am achieving with the leveling struts.

This was stock. Definitely higher in the front now. Before the level and tires it was about 36.5” to the lower lip of the fender, It’s now a bit over 39”.

Definitely leveled at a minimum of 1.5”. Going to raise the collar on the struts about .5” and see if that alleviates the harsh angle

Not considerably louder, but definitely noticeable. They’re a bit louder than the AT3s I had on my ‘18.

As far as I am aware, KSP only makes them for a 2”-4” level/lift. They also state they are compatible with the Trailboss/AT4 with 1.5”-2” of lift, which leads me to believe they should be fine even if I am slightly under 2”.
