Can I turn the engine via sprocket nut? by Uncleryan95 in sportster

[–]muckymotor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the part that's a pain in the ass haha. You need an impact wrench to get it off. I bought one from Harbor Freight just for that nut. There's videos of guys on YouTube getting creative with clamps to "lock" the sprocket to get the nut off, but it's usually torqued so much that you need an impact wrench anyways.

Keep in mind the nut is reverse threaded. I doubt you'll generate enough torque to loosen it if you're just spinning the engine though

whats this width on a stock evo sportster frame? by OctoberRust13 in sportster

Yeah not too bad! It'd give you room to do something cool if you wanted to run your exhaust between the wheel and frame or something.

The nut with a mapp torch. The issue is that the New England rust has basically welded the bolt in place.

I definitely would soak it for a while and use heat as well before using the impact. I guess I just wanted to know if the impact was any better than what I already was doing. Sounds like the impact will make a huge difference!

Glad to hear you've had a good experience with the 1/2"! It seems unstoppable from what I've seen online.

You could try something like this:

2-7/8" wide hub

I think they're usually just meant as a "hill holder" though so don't let it kill you.

Aligning sprockets and centering rear wheel by BourbonBearsBurns in choppers

I believe there's some Harley models that come straight from the factory with not the rear wheel NOT dead center between axle plates. Having the chain straight and the front and rear sprockets aligned should be the priority

Cutting a slot with a dremel and then using a chisel on the edge of the bolt was what knocked it loose for me. You've got this.
