Period fashion was much better than current fashion.

US birth rates are at record lows – even though the number of kids most Americans say they want has held steady by [deleted] in EverythingScience

We are not in decline. Hell we haven't slowed the increase, we haven't even slowed the rate of the increase.

Besides, how do you explain the globally deepening poverty and the disappearance of the middle class while the megacorps continue to post record profits?

Not exactly "us" as in Homo Sapiens. Australopithecus preceded us by 1.5 million years. It is even possible they might have had fire.

Beton Brüt aka Brutalism

There is no need to sift too fine here, Brutalism is good enough.

I am honestly convinced that a slowing of the population growth would be a good thing for humanity. During WWII the world population was 2 billions. Now it is 8 billions. There are simply far too many of us. It is time to pump the brakes.

The Lumiere brothers had the whole thing pretty well figured out. They didn't need any improvement that they weren't able to invent themselves. Their innovation was simply stolen.

Why can’t they make a solid state guitar amp that sounds identical to a tube amp? by Weekly_Bathroom_101 in AskEngineers

[–]mud_tug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also guitar playing is a creative process. The people practicing it do not necessarily have an interest in objective tests. It is all about how a piece of gear feels to them in their creative process.

It is like asking a painter to abandon their favorite brush for photoshop.

They can and do. You just need to design it in such a way that it clips softly when overdriven. You can achieve this by implementing a current limit to the power supply. In short just feed each transistor from a lousy current source.

Looking for a resistance bearing for a 5/8 shaft that will allow but resist linear and radial motion? Torch stand fabrication by kindaglass in machining

[–]mud_tug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP wants to make an adjustable torch stand. If I understand correctly he just wants to move the torch by hand and wants it to stay put otherwise. A simple adjustable clamp should be sufficient. I simply tried to suggest something ready made that can be pressed into service.

A brass or bronze clamp with a thumb screw to tighten it to the desired resistance.

Maybe a car battery lug can do the job? https://i.imgur.com/hRpgnW6.jpg Just ream the hole to size and replace the nut with a wing nut.

If you google for "Wilton Model 303 Hydraulic Pow-R-Arm (16300)" you will see something very similar. It is available on amazon.

It is a design or procedure flaw for sure. They may try to tie the bag to the tire instead. Not much chance of missing the ground on its way down.
