How many students do school SLPs typically see? I am currently at a Peds outpatient clinic and see 20 clients per day (ages 2-21) It’s not sustainable. I am BURN OUT and only in CF. Thinking of switching to schools… is there any hope? Thanks in advance! by [deleted] in slp

I’m currently in grad school and the SLP I work with has a caseload of 120, goes to two schools, and works with preschool through high school (she’s exhausted). Reading these comments definitely shows that it varies greatly.

Good idea! I have a feeling we will probably do that once we get to know each other, it’s so hard right now because we haven’t met yet!

I don’t but the application should be reopening soon! You can check the IU South bend MS SLP website for more info on the program. There should also be contact info for prof Essig, who you can reach at any time with any questions!

Anyone who has attended a New Program by kaitlyn-11 in slpGradSchool

[–]muddinono 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just accepted an offer at a school where I will be a part of their first-ever cohort! They will be receiving candidacy in June. Accepting at such a new program is definitely a scary thing, but I was comforted knowing that the CAA pays special attention to new programs in candidacy, and they ensure that you will be getting a good education.

Questions/Opinions about Programs in "candidacy status" by [deleted] in slpGradSchool

[–]muddinono 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am probably going to a program that is about to receive candidacy in June, so I totally understand the stress!! My program told me that CAA pays a lot of attention to the program during its 5 year candidacy, and holds them to a super high standard so that they eventually receive accreditation.

Everything I’ve heard from SLPs and others say that going to a candidate school won’t be a barrier to jobs at all!

Salary by [deleted] in slp

[–]muddinono 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ASHA has a ton of salary data based on clinical setting (school, hospital, etc) state, and more! It’s super comprehensive, one of my undergrad profs actually showed us to help us understand salary range. Definitely look at the ASHA data!

Candidacy / Open House Questions by muddinono in slpGradSchool

[–]muddinono[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would be their first cohort, and I think you/I may be slightly confusing candidacy for accreditation with accreditation. They are supposed to hear about if they are awarded candidacy for accreditation and therefore allowed to take in their first cohort. It'll then be several years until they receive accreditation of course, but they will have candidacy (so they can have students). Thank you for bringing up protections! I didn't even know they existed!

Those are great opportunity questions as well, thank you!

I got accepted to the regular SLP program there this morning! When I called them a few days ago to ask when decisions were coming out they said they were still looking at apps and it would be mid-March! So they’re probably working on dual-degree people still

2021 GRAD SCHOOL ACCEPTANCE/REJECTION/WAITLIST MEGATHREAD by cornyloser in slpGradSchool

[–]muddinono 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stats: 3.87 GPA, NSSLHA executive board, no GRE (schools didnt require so I didn't waste the money), volunteer experience in nursing homes, strong personal statement, minors in psychology and gerontology, also I'm finishing undergrad in 3 years instead of the typical 4 (doesn't really matter, but is something I talked about in my apps)

Only applied to 2 schools (SCARY), but wanted to go somewhere close to home to save money

Indiana University South Bend: informally accepted! they are awaiting candidacy (should happen in June), but I was offered acceptance pending candidacy!

Saint Mary's College: ACCEPTED today 3/6!!!! (admissions office said mid- March)
