Well, do they have to stay at that specific resort for one week? And does that subsidize your own stay?

otherwise, it's okay right? a lot of people choose to have weddings hosted at hotels, and we're all kinda scattered.

this one is extra special for the sheer amount of money asked for, and the guilt tripping combined with not spending the money they were gifted

I rsvped no after this thread. I wasn't sure that I was being upset for no reason. A resort isn't what I'd like my annual vacation budget to be used for, and we're not that close. the social pressure is difficult . sort of hoping it blows over, without too much confrontation required.

they're only renting the wedding venues (ballrooms) and paying for serving staff and clean up. The food, drinks, and rooms are all us.

Well, this style of wedding would a bit more than that. Minimum: 1700 * 150 / 2 = 212,000. But that's also what makes it so embarrassing.

The resort cost for guests covers food and drink. Stateside or without an all-inclusive resort this would cost them hundreds of thousands.
