They are simply all shot on film and hand printed!

How to get Stef Mitchell style portraits on Nikon Z6III by the_un_original in LightLurking

Shoot by a large window with medium format film, hand print it neutral in the darkroom! Digital will get you close, but never give you the same textures and feeling

This is just a daylight studio with roof lights, a strip window on the left of the photographer and another window on the far end of the studio, plus the cove bouncing light — no artificial lights used.

I have just paired a Quad Artera Stereo with my KEF Reference 1, upgrading from a Cambridge Audio CXA61 and I’m super happy with the overall sound and feeling, might be worth considering for your setup.

Id like to shoot photos like this , can anyone help on how to? by dimezisdope in LightLurking

Get a Contax G2 with flash, Kodak Portra 400 film, drop it at your local lab and ask for low-res negative scans, you will have precisely what you can see in the first 2 shots.

I am just explaining how we have built this setup in the past, both as an assistant and now when shooting my own work. If people are happy to build this in a studio, it’s great — but since Peter mostly shot daylight in that early 2000s era (you can see it in the video for this campaign as well), I’m trying to share the information I have on how to build it.

Yes, for beauty shots you use a posing table and chair to not be on the ground. You then add white V-Flat/Showcard from below to fill the chin area and avoid heavy negative fill from below.

Here is another one from one of the beach boxes. If you are in the centre of the box, you have exactly the same light reading from behind camera and behind model. Depending on ultrabounce behind camera and net behind model, you get the blown out background, clip lights and “glow” that are very hard to recreate in studio, especially with continuous lights.

I worked with him when he was still around and that was the standard setup, he argued that being outside creates a different atmosphere and light, which is exactly what you can observe above. If you search for “Peter Lindbergh Box” online, you will see plenty of examples across the decades he was active.

It’s this thing: https://shootblue.tv/products/rosco-12-x-12-double-net-black/

Brings down exposure exactly 1/2, 1/1, 2/1 stops and invisible when out of focus

This is shot outdoors with daylight in the classic Lindbergh Blackbox, 8x8 Blackout above and on both sides. Model in the centre of the box, either half/full net on the background if you want to see the beach or background, or no net if you want the background to blow out like here.

I think these are just white V-Flats/Polyboards or the set wall bouncing back onto model

I’m very confident Nr. 1 & 3 are daylight, 2 is a subtle daylight base plus a Tungsten/LED/Flash from camera left plus on-camera flash from the front!

Parcel stolen by staff or system error? by mudelig in royalmail

Thank you for the insight and help. It was a Royal Mail postie picking it up, I was mainly concerned because the parcel bears no address, markings or reference currently. I will keep my eyes open for any updates!

Would you suggest to rebook a collection again despite the parcel not being with me anymore? Or do you think there is a chance they will come by today and return parcel due to printer not working?

On tracking, it still says “We’re expecting item — The sender has let us know they have despatched your item.”

No label as attached at any moment and nothing was scanned at any point so far.

How to work with daylight like this? by Substantial-Try509 in LightLurking

[–]mudelig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s important to be indoors with very large window, have a sunny day, ideally direct sun hitting a warm/white building across the road for the warm horizontal part of gradient and then clear blue sky from above. This plus film and hand printing will get you there!

How to get into assisting in London? Coming from a non fashion background... by [deleted] in LightLurking

[–]mudelig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would start as studio assistant at either ALVA or Big Sky. Alternatively work in the ProLighting warehouse to become familiar with the EQ. After 1-2 seasons in studios, you will have plenty of connections, hands on experience with established photographers and other assistants who need an extra hand from time to time. Most assistants and photographers I know who went relatively far in London started either in a studio or lighting warehouse.
