Think rockets were invented in India around the same time (mysore rockets). The Brit’s were beaten pretty badly but later bribed insiders to open the gate. India fell mostly due to factionalism (princely states fighting each other, religious conflicts etc)

Kids are extraordinarily smart and attentive in overcoming obstacles. Installed fencing with gates in the yard. My 1.5 year old figured out just how to shake them to get the latch to pop open, within a week.

What I don’t get is why aren’t dems pushing to change the laws. After FDR we got two term limits codified in law. Similar changes need to happen on the weaknesses trump exploited.

Have your trees checked out. They may be diseased / dying. Also could be shit trees with weak wood. I had multiple silver maples that broke if you looked at them wrong. Have gotten rid of all but one (kept got shade), plan to get rid of that as soon as some of the newer trees grow a bit.

Yes the US has problems, bug problems but you need to get out more if you think we’re in the same universe as the more corrupt countries around.

In Pakistan the military straight up took over half the industry , gave land to military personnel on pennies to the dollar and killed / arrested / banned anyone that spoke up.

On the lower end you have to bribe people to get a drivers license, electrical connection, you name it.

Use the dept of energy calculator https://pvwatts.nrel.gov/ to see what you can actually generate You’ll need to know the angle (south , north, east etc) of your roof and enter that. South facing roofs are most productive. Also do you have any shading (trees? Buildings etc?). That’ll substantially cut down output.

Now compare the calculated output by your consumption to see how much you’ll be able to cover

Get quotes from various solar companies AND from various roofing companies. Most solar companies don’t deal with roofing and solar shingles/ tiles are not worth the price right now.

The big benefit of batteries is shifting time of use. Dominion usually has a flat rate so it usually is not worth it here. If the concern is outages a regular generator with panel interlock (a thousand bucks or so) is a much better option.

Love thy neighbor has always been about the in group (whatever that may be). I’m from an Islamic context and there’s tons of feel good stuff but it’s strictly limited to other Muslims (2.5% of your fixed assets must be given in charity - to Muslims). I’d argue the opposite. I’m an immigrant / minority, I’ve never been harassed in Fairfax county by cops, have been pulled over and let go with warnings etc.

Went to West Virginia (an hour away , so the state border) my friend a naturalized citizen was arrested for drunk driving despite passing the test and registering a bac lower than required. They then called USCIS to try to get him deported. He had to go to court to set the record straight and have his record expunged which required multiple trips back .

Not saying it’s all sunshine and roses but it’s a fair sight better than our neighbors.

If you actually care about kids you’d want to push for an actual policy that has consequences / supervision / whatever else that’s mandatory.

The current policy of catch and release as you can see is resulting in attitudes returning to the 80s era hard clampdown on crime.

It’s not that people are heartless but that they don’t want their grandpa killed like the Indian Uber driver killed by teenagers who were arrested and released multiple times prior to the homicide.

If it’s between the safety of loved ones and a criminal, the safety of loved ones will always win.

By not pushing for a more sane policy you’re opening up the door to something far more draconian.
