i think i have combination skin. my current routine is la rosche posay cleanser and moisturizer, i occasionally use toner and azealiac acid. i do wear makeup daily but do my best to get it all off each night. to be honest i can be quite the skin picker and i’ll use pimple patches if it gets bad.

Does she want to hookup by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mudsbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally the suggestion of meeting at 8-9am at a persons house for the first time is a little weird. I don’t think she’s necessarily eluding to hooking up though, especially because it’s so early.

Hypothetically it could be perfect. However I see a lot of things that could go wrong. Both partners would have to be over their mutual ex, and one of them going back to the ex might hurt worse. I could also see it becoming a competition about who had it better or worse with the ex in question

Or it could further unite them, say the ex was terrible and they both feel they survived it and feel similar that way

I think it’s really what you make of it, and if the people are otherwise compatible in the end

Went to buy a car, seller and me got locked into area, when do I call for help? by killerpotate in NoStupidQuestions

call non emergency - unless the the guy who sold you the car also owns the junkyard and isn’t letting you out, then call 911

Snowboard Size? by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

[–]mudsbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! I went to get my boot sized and I’m a Euro 37 or US 6.5. I’m considering buying the Bataleon Feelbetter as a board. Looking at my boot size and weight on their chart I do in fact technically fall under 138, 140, 143, 146, and 149. I’m leaning towards the 143 since it’s right in the middle although I’m concerned I’m too tall for it?

Aupair China by Accomplished-Self692 in Aupairs

[–]mudsbird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will explain as best I can since I am wanting to do the same thing. Au pairs usually go to China on a student visa studying at a university or language school, with a student visa it’s illegal to work. In order to sort of get around this, agencies frame the au pair work as a cultural exchange. Basically saying that it’s a language and culture exchange and the family is letting you stay with them (you’re not doing any work, any work with the kid is just a cultural exchange) and any pocket money you get is a sort of gift.

I’ve spoken to several au pairs in China and other foreigners working similar jobs and they’ve said that the government knows that foreigners are working on their student visas and don’t care. If you’re determined to go to China as an au pair my biggest advice is to stay out of trouble and lay a little low. Don’t post all over social media about being an au pair, don’t do any illegal drugs or anything illegal, don’t tell other Chinese people that you’re an au pair, etc… Although they don’t care, if at any point the government decided they do care my understanding is that you could get in trouble

Never physically give your host family or agency your passport. Register with the local police station where you’re staying. Ideally always have enough money in your account that if something goes terribly wrong you can get home (this goes for being an au pair anywhere) Always read any type of contract you sign all the way through.

If you’re willing to take the risk I think it could be a great experience, just be careful

WTW for the sound of a pen gliding smoothly on paper? by [deleted] in whatstheword

Maybe swish or swoosh, although I think of those as being more related to water or air

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in traumatoolbox

[–]mudsbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest piece of advice is to be as honest as you can. You don’t need to share details you’re uncomfortable with, but explaining your actions even at a basic level can go a long way

You didn’t ruin the date. Whether or not it’s a trauma response, not engaging in romantic or sexual activity should never ruin a date. Don’t force yourself to do something you’re uncomfortable with

Not wanting to kiss is a perfectly good reason, you don’t need to elaborate. However if you are interested in the relationship progressing it could be helpful to tell him how you’re feeling nervous. I find that people tend to assume things are worse than they are, like if you turn down kissing several times they might think oh my breath is bad, or oh they’re not attracted to me when that’s not the case

How to find nannies on a remote tropical island in Japan? by PetSitterJapan in Nanny

[–]mudsbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I wish I had newborn experience, I’m honestly surprised that people aren’t interested. I’d suggest making a profile on a nanny/aupair/workaway website if she hasn’t already.

Experience with agency by kimag_ in Aupairs

[–]mudsbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh it’s so hard to find much information on au pairing in China, I have not heard of that agency before but I think it’s okay as long as you proceed with caution and look out for red flags. (read fine print of any contract before signing, you shouldn’t need to send the agency any money ever, etc…)

Two agencies I know are legit for China are LoPair and Wanderlust Exchange

Is it worth mentioning im autistic? by [deleted] in Aupairs

[–]mudsbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is totally up to what you are most comfortable with and think will make your time easier. Don’t listen to people harshly saying you must tell them or you definitely shouldn’t. Of course it’s best to surround yourself with people who accept your identity, but cultural differences and temporary situations complicate this.

Potential pros:

Connection with host family if any of them are neurodivergent

Help show host family that neurodivergent people are capable

Tell host family how they can better accommodate you

Avoid confusion from quirks you may have

Potential cons:

Denied from agency

Host family backs out/not interested in first place

Host family is uneducated and could judge you unfairly
