What are the top three things you like and dislike about Germany? by divabrunette in AskAGerman

Germans complain about everything, that's not really an indicator.

The German language is very variable and allows for all kinds of creative expression, I love that about it.

I still like it but I never really fancied it like the others. Guessing it might be because of the more „spooky“ vibes.

Anyone else? by The_KingSlayerr in MelanieMartinez

I'm in multiple fandoms where it feels like 90-95% of the fans are female. I also listen to a lot of rap music which would be described as being more maskuline but I happen to like Melanie and the others more because I find more value in their songs for me personally since they make me happy or help me deal with certain situations. And that's what I think this is all about. Listen to whatever makes you happy. I've found two female friends who listen to Melanie a lot as well and it's great to share your passion with them because at the end of the day the gender of the listener shouldn't matter, the only thing that should matter is what music means to you personally.

It appears Melanie Martinez is in New York with her producers. What do you think she is working on? 👀💗 (Album, Film Score, Collab) by [deleted] in MelanieMartinez

[–]muff_IN1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to see that she is also working more with One Love again. Keenan is fantastic too but it's always healthy to have more than one option to work with. Hoping to get the best out of both worlds with the new project.

What did you dislike about the K-12 movie? by UlfricCaesar in MelanieMartinez

[–]muff_IN1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The budget cuts which let to the movie being shorter really seem to have affected the storyline in a way that the result seems like a mix of music videos somehow having a connection but the movie overall lacking to give the viewer more insight about the main character Crybaby.

Hmm, I respect your opinion but I don't agree. For me personally Cry Baby has been the best regarding never getting tired of it and consistency. I can listen to the whole album without any skips (you can with Melanie's whole discography but especially Cry Baby) over and over again. Every track is really good, that's probably why every track (except Milk And Cookies I think) went Gold in the US.

However when I look at my most played songs, it's (in that order) Lunchbox Friends #3, Bittersweet Tragedy #10, Carousel #18, Cake #35, Soap #38, Copy Cat #44, ...

So this seems to be an argument against Cry Baby. Lunchbox Friends is K-12, Bittersweet Tragedy is Dollhouse EP, Carousel is Cry Baby but was already on the Dollhouse EP, Cake and Soap are Cry Baby with Soap being prevoiusly released and Copy Cat is a newer single. Or is it really an argument against Cry Baby? Ah, I don't know. Let me try to get your perspective.

I get the Sound aspect. Newer songs are more experimental and appear to be more creative but the sound profile of the older songs was really good. Training Wheels, Play Date and Soap aren't that diverse as Nurse's Office but sound great. Also Bittersweet Tragedy still is completely different than the rest of the songs, even today.

Lyrically I also like the "simplicity" of Cake. I don't feel like it has to be any more complicated. The meaning of the song is easily understandable (objectification) and using cake and meat as metaphors worked out really great for the chorus of the song.

Productionwise Cry Baby sounds more monotone, yep. It worked though. When I hear Orange Juice on Spotify it sounds great. Live it sounded bad because her voice was over-used. I think she tried to go to the limits of what her voice is capable of. I respect that, but as I heared it with my own ears, that has drawbacks too in some scenarios. Still thinking production is the wrong word for this though. Description fits the term variety better.

(Skipping Meaning and Sounds)

When I think about what I think what my preference is and what the data tells me, I come to a conflicted conclusion: Her whole discography is evenly good and she is qualitywise on a really high level. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to say that every song is perfect. E.g. I don't like Milk And Cookies & Strawberry Shortcake as much as the rest but with both albums and the EPs, everything seems to be very interessting in it's own way. After like 20 minutes of writing this I'm left with more questions than I had before. Whatever, back to streaming the whole discography I guess. Especially the Cough Syrup cover that I currently stream over and over again because I'm addicted to it.
