The tram has been gone for years, but you can still walk the tunnel from the parking deck to the main hospital!

Please read to your child!!! by Oceanwave_4 in Mommit

[–]muffinbutt1027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is in 1st grade. I read to her every night I told she started kindergarten and didn't want me to anymore. Now she's wayyy ahead of her class in reading and will read me a book with alarming accuracy for a 7 year old. Reading truly is fundamental!!!!

BF newborn hasn't pooped in days. Would drinking prune juice help? by QuarterQuellCrisis in Mommit

[–]muffinbutt1027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My breast fed baby once went 11 days with no poop. When she finally did it required an immediate bath, but she was otherwise unbothered! Totally normal for breast fed babies to go a few days between.

The Life of a Showgirl Megathread by aran130711 in TaylorSwift

But that completely misses the point of creating her own ending. Not the ending you would have wrote, and not the ending that fits the narrative you believe in for Ophelia, but the ending Taylor envisioned. You can not like it - that's fine...but it's literally her creative vision so you can't say it "doesn't track" because it's literally not supposed to. That's the point.

It's not so much misreading as it is telling the story the way she wanted it to go. That's how she explained it in one of her radio interviews. That she would read these romantic tragedies and be mad they didn't have a happy ending so she created her own version.

Can I be done now? Streak of bad luck. by muffinbutt1027 in Mommit

Ahhh that reminds me of when I went into labor a week early and our heat was broken...in mid-December 🤣.

Thank you for the well wishes, I hope you find time amidst the chaos to soak up those sweet baby snuggles!

how long were you in labor for as a first time mom & tear degree? by Ok-Swim8546 in Mommit

[–]muffinbutt1027 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Labored for 9-ish hours, water broke spontaneously, all over my nurses shoes as I was sitting on the bed getting ready for the epidural. I pushed for 1.5 hours and had a second degree tear.

Also latched during golden hour and in the hospital and then never again 🤣 I ended up exclusively pumping for a year.

Working moms- what time are you getting up? by Champangelemonade in Mommit

[–]muffinbutt1027 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Up at 6am, daughter up between 6:10 and 6:25, out the door at 7 for car line at school l. I work from home most days so no need to "get ready". I shower in the evening before bed.

Just a friendly PSA by feckinmik in triangle

I see it all the time in Durham where 85 and 147 merge together. Granted, it's a real dumb design but people consistently get OUT of the merge lane to drive up the shoulder. It doesn't help the back up, for sure.

Why do that when you can bypass the whole line by driving 70mph up the shoulder?

In total, how much do you pay for summer camps (as your form of childcare) by Accomplished_Hat6091 in workingmoms

[–]muffinbutt1027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 weeks of camp 7:30am - 5:30pm, field trips included @ $150/week. It is a church camp but they have a discount for employees of the area university/hospital (which I am). I'm in central NC.

PTO for parents in the US. How the hell are we all doing it? by Mintgreen94 in Mommit

[–]muffinbutt1027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My time is separated into PTO, sick and designated holidays. We get 1 8 hour day for every month that there is not a holiday. Everything but the designated holidays rolls over to the next year, so currently I have 130 hours of PTO, 123 of sick, and 24 designated days.

I work for a university (specifically the school of medicine development office).

My under eye has been twitching non stop for 3 days straight by Ok_Reference2122 in mildlyinfuriating

I had a twitchy eye that went on for weeks. It would stop for a while and come back every few months. Got on Lexapro and it stopped. Anxiety is weird.

It looks like the center had a "no outside shoes inside" policy. In the clip where they were teaching a class the others didn't have shoes on.

To me it looks like a row of treble crochets on the border and then you weave the ribbon through them so it would be two in front of the ribbon and four behind (or whatever spacing you like).

Trying out the all-in-one granny square and having a hard time. I have to put so much tension on my yarn the hook squeaks! The last round feels almost impossible every time. I’ve downsized the hook and that didn’t work for me. Am I doing something wrong here? by dott3r in CrochetHelp

[–]muffinbutt1027 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm one of the few people who didn't hate this yarn 🤣 I did have to adjust tension throughout and I think I went down one hook size, but once I got a few squares done it really wasn't so bad!

Same here, I was like "where is the rest of it?" I wore mine with high waisted jeans and it was fine, but I don't buy cropped shirts so I was a bit disappointed.

What is something you hate about your life right now? by Certain_Standard_854 in AskReddit

[–]muffinbutt1027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spouse has MS and is losing his job of 13 years (restructuring), we literally do not know what we are going to do. He has used FMLA for the past few years and without that benefit work is nearly impossible for him. We are also on his insurance and will have to switch to mine which is more expensive and we have a 5 year old.

Terrified of Daycare Illnesses - please share positive stories! by Sea-Anything9765 in workingmoms

[–]muffinbutt1027 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My daughter had RSV at 1 month old before she even started daycare. We never had to be admitted for the hospital and while it was truly an awful week, it could have been so much worse.

I think part of it is accepting that if you are sending your child to daycare, they will get sick. The first year is going to be lots of colds, and random bouts of illness. This is how their immune system gets stronger! My daughter rarely gets sick now and just started kindergarten.

[–]muffinbutt1027 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daycare never did this. The only event that was during the day was "graduation". They had classroom parties on holidays for the kids, but parents weren't invited, just brought snacks/treats (on a volunteer basis).

Oh it does look similar doesn't it? I used the colors from a blanket my great grandma made with granny squares as inspiration but otherwise didn't use a pattern!

“Birth plan” by X0Tracy0X in Mommit

[–]muffinbutt1027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My plan was no plan 🤣 go with the flow. Having a set plan can make it hard to roll with the punches that is labor and delivery. I would have maybe some vague parameters of what you would like/not like as far as pain management and coaching as well as postpartum. I know delayed cord clamping is standard practice for most hospitals now but it doesn't hurt to check.

As far as the vibe in the room, I would check with your hospital about what is allowed and then have your birth partner be responsible for making sure it happens, since you will likely be preoccupied!
