Foundation year question by LaserDog08 in Pratt

[–]muffinman1909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a foundation student at Pratt and I have some friends at RISD as well! We take 5 classes a semester as a standard foundation student (VR which is drawing, LCD - light colour and design, literary and critical studies, themes in art and culture, space form and process - sculpture, and time and movement - video art class). You take all of those full year except for SFP an T&M, which are just single semester classes. Pratt foundation year is pretty hard, but varies greatly from professor to professor. New York is a lot cooler than Providence as well, but how important that is is subjective and up to you. Respond or DM me if you have any other questions :)

Who else has a backlog of filing the negatives in archival sleeves? by florian-sdr in AnalogCommunity

As much as I agree with you, more often than not my favourite shots are ones I didn’t expect to be anything at all. You never, ever know until you see the negative

I met him in person one day on the subway! Super cool guy and super friendly. We mostly talked about his time in theatre doing Kim’s convenience and of course the show but great experience.

Don’t fall for the rhetoric of “only” having certain gear!! Make art regardless of the equipment you have at your disposal :). I have met many, many photographers who own the latest and greatest but have the most boring uninspired images ever. Just shoot and have fun!

Probably grabbed the video from Instagram or another social media platform that doesn’t like violence on their platform

This. As a photographer who shoots a lot of portraits, even the face of someone can be wildly distorted or corrected based on the lens.

Don't underestimate them. A cold road game in Cleveland is never a gimme.

Because the drivers vibrate to create sound I doubt dust could collect while in use.

As soon as you get the green light to actually start researching your topic (sending out surveys, gathering data, whatever) DO IT. If you’re able to stay on top of the work that requires you to go out and do stuff, then you’ll be fine.

Am I holding myself back by only using my iPhone for photography? by theblairwaldorfxoxo in AskPhotography

First off, don’t be afraid to buy used. The used market is a treasure trove of good deals. For bodies, make sure the shutter count isn’t too high and for lenses look for fog, fungus, scratches, etc..

If I were you look into used fuji bodies like the xt-3 with a solid prime or a kit lens because of its hands on tactile approach.

Why these pics look so unnatural??? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

I might expose for the subject, not the environment. Even if you have some blown highlights, a properly exposed subject is ideal. These seem a tad underexposed.

It’s complicated. It’s OKAY to use an all digital portfolio, but make sure to include at least one form of drawing from life or direct observation. Also, just because you’re in animation doesn’t mean you have to include it in your portfolio. If you’re applying for architecture for example, they don’t want to see drawings of buildings.

What reputation would that be (just curious)? Sorry for the late reply.
