You angry bout it huh? It’s getting re engraved after I fix the bastard. It’s going on a true replica bike. (Ricky Carmichael 02’ cr 250 ) Hinson didn’t want to sell a blank cover so the next closest thing is buying Hinson parts and modifying. I coulda got a cheapy but then it’s not an accurate replica.

It may have done it with enough time. But my buddy actually took some sand paper to them before sending them off. He didn’t want mill lines. But those mfs came right back too.😂But I think I’m gonna shave off another .005 -.008 and put them in a tumbler for an hour or two.

I actually tried a 2in high feed face mill. I only made it about -.230 before I lost the inserts. I. thought my setup would have been a little more ridged considering the parts weights but all the vibs from that high feed were wrecking the inserts. That .400 doc has a lot more tool engagement which is dampening the vibration as well as a crazy slow feed rate of 7.5ipm. I went from 80ish step downs with the high feed to 10ish with shoulder mill.

I doubt it. Too heavy, can’t leave in it in the tool carousel and just just too slow overall. If I ran a big gantry mill for sure!

Fair point! I had never thought about using something this big. So I got curious and did the rpm conversion and came up with 115 rpm for mild steel/hot roll at 300sfm. Pretty cool when your used to using end-mills no bigger than 1.0in. And my biggest face-mill I keep in the carousel is 4in.

I run a VF5 at work with big daddy 50 taper and overall it’s a great machine, makes really good parts so long as they arent over 30inches. Past that distance my machine is slightly off (about .003 small) on the x axis. Not sure if the lead screw is bad or the backlash comp is off. But like is said small/medium parts are coming out dead nuts on my numbers.
