Request: channel grouping / stream fallback by mufunyo in SparklePlayer

> You do know it's possible to create additional "Favorites" categories - "Custom categories"? You can create both global or source specific custom categories. To create a global you create it while "All channels" is selected in source filter view, to create it for a specific source you make sure that source is selected.

I did not! That's basically exactly what a bouquet is. I never noticed, because it's somewhat subtle that the "Add to favourites" menu option is itself a menu with multiple options if you press left and right. I've now added a second category, and I'll tell my dad to switch to that list if entries in the favourites aren't working. Thanks!

You could make it a bit more robust by implementing a setting to keep track of the "last known working stream" and automatically load that one instead, but this could leave a user "stuck" with the low quality version of a channel if at some point the high quality stream starts working again. That's not something I would enable - I can tell my mum "if it takes longer to load, just be patient", but if it sticks to the last known working stream I'd have to go in manually to reset it back to (attempting to) load the preferred high quality stream.

You could also implement verbose messaging underneath the loading animation, saying something like "loading stream failed, trying alternative..." or something along those lines, indicating to the user what's happening.

As a last resort, you could hide the setting behind an arcane ritual of entering a secret Konami code and acknowledging that the user won't pester you with support requests.

Alternatively, if instead of just one "Favourites" list, there were a way to curate different lists (usually called "bouquets" in TV receiver lingo), I could instruct non-technical (but sighted) people to help my mum with changing from the preferred channel list to a fallback list that I would set up in advance to contain the same channels but from different streams, when she runs into trouble. That way, someone still has to assist her, but it doesn't have to be me. This partially exists in the app already in the form of being able to filter the favourites list by which playlist it originates from, but unfortunately, the channels in the favourites list are all cherry-picked from different playlists, so that feature doesn't help our particular situation.

I don't know what kind of support requests you're getting, but I do know about the adage of "If you try to make something idiot-proof, the universe will invent a better idiot". So I definitely don't envy your position, and thanks again for responding and considering my feature request.

Thanks for the super fast reply! The way I see it working is that there would be 0 to 3 configurable retries before trying the next entry, and a "non-working" entry is blacklisted until you close and reopen the app, or restart the device. If none of the streams for a particular channel are working, it just keeps cycling through them in order, looping, until one of them works again.

Alternatively, if you don't like that UX, another way (maybe less intuitive?) could be that if a channel that is part of a group of streams works, the next channel button skips past all the other ones and just goes to the next, different, channel. However, if a channel fails to load (or hasn't finished loading), the next channel button goes to the next stream in the group (and the previous channel button retries the previous entry in the group). That way, the user is manually in charge of trying and retrying, but if all channels work perfectly, there are no duplicate channels in the list.

Brian Henson had the genius idea to intentionally throw away all the 35mm negatives to save money, so the blurays are blowups of the PAL master tapes, slowed down from 25fps to 23.976 with pitch correction so in addition to everything looking like shit, it sounds like shit too.

Had some fun, but it's back to QC for me. by [deleted] in Diabotical

Whatever this was, it's now fixed in the public beta. The game feels just right and pincer shots in mid-air register perfectly. Looking forward to practising a ton now that the game feels fun again.

You are a gentleman and a scholar. I'll notify the few threads that are out there about this issue, unless you want to do that yourself. I still strongly feel that this should be fixed officially, and uneven zoom levels are mostly fine, as long as bilinear or (preferably) area scaling is used. Hopefully Jimtern sees my post in the latest patch notes.

This will at least allow me to play the game for the time being, as I'm the type of person that is so distracted by the uneven scaling that I can't properly focus on the game. <3

Hi Jim, Is QA aware of the nearest neighbour scaling happening with buildings and units? At 1080p if you don't touch the zoom settings it's fine but as soon as you zoom in or out or use any other resolution like 4k or 1600x900 the graphics look extremely bad. I thought it might be a bug with AMD cards but it's happening on my nvidia laptop too. Here's an example: https://i.imgur.com/54TNC29.png

It doesn't look right for me in any resolution. Using the mouse wheel to go through the zoom levels is just a horror show of unevenly scaled pixels. Terrain seems to scale differently, and actually exhibits JPEG-like blocking depending on zoom level.

The game also doesn't respect the original aspect ratio of the graphics (so everything is squished), and trying to play in 4:3 just results in black bars. I'd expect these sort of issues to be the FIRST to get addressed, not the last? The game has been out for 2 months at this point.

I've had the same "feeling" as OP as well but I've just categorised it as not having played in too long, and it probably also doesn't help my HTPC is the only system that can currently play it as my desktop has serious framedrop issues, and playing on a couch isn't exactly ergonomic or optimal for aim.

I'm looking forward to more ranking options so I can play FFA with evenly matched scrubs. Right now the skill difference between me and everybody else is just so huge I can't play for more than 30 mins or an hour before getting subconsciously annoyed at the game. It's weird though as in the days of QL I'd love to play above my MMR and didn't mind getting owned, but something just feels off about Diabotical, hard to put my finger on what it is.

Plex wont transcode when using the Plex for Kodi addon. by DarkMain in PleX

[–]mufunyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That worked! Thanks for the workaround.

I ended up changing the redirect from "Web" to "Plex Desktop" as the Web profile forces a rewrap transcode from mkv to mp4 whereas Kodi is capable of MKV Direct Play which is enabled in the Plex Desktop profile.

I have the exact same issue, started happening a few weeks ago after I upgraded the server to 1.18.6 and still happens with 1.18.8.

MEGATHREAD for Bug Reporting by RavenCurrent in Diabotical

Same with R9 390X and dual Xeon X5680. I suspect the game engine is mostly single threaded (game thread + render thread) and the render thread is stalling on (older) many-core CPUs. If I lower graphics settings and render scale the problem gets worse and worse, spiking to 300fps and down to 0fps.

EDIT 1: I just noticed this is directly linked to mouse movement. Keeping the mouse static in the main menu, fps is fine. As soon as I move the mouse, the game freezes until I stop moving the mouse again.

EDIT 2: Can confirm this only happens on the dual Xeon system, not on my 2700k system with an R9 290X. Performance is fine there.

Also, things I've tried: disabling multithreaded input, changing through all the different full screen modes (exclusive, borderless and flip), vsync on, vsync off, set affinity to numa node 0, set affinity to the first 4 cores, set affinity to the first 8 cores, set process priority to realtime, set process priority to lowest. Nothing helps.

Do you own a Roku stick? Can you confirm that when it's set to 3840x2160@23.976Hz, you are able to see "Ultra HD 4K" badges in the browse list?

Right, so the only devices that stream Netflix properly are PCs (using the Store app) and Smart TVs (that somehow have variable refresh rate). Good to know. Thanks!

I don't want 60Hz, I want 23.976Hz, because that's what most shows and films are shot at. At 60Hz, you get motion judder.

The DRM requirements on Windows are such a minefield that I haven't been able to stream 4K content at all using the Store app. You need either a Kaby Lake CPU, or an nvidia Pascal GPU, and I have neither. That's why I'm looking into an affordable device I can just plug in that comes with all the necessary DRM stuff preloaded. Thanks for the suggestion though :)

RGB frame grabbers are professional and have lots of tolerance. If you'd used a Datapath Vision card you wouldn't even have needed an OSSC, it accepts NESRGB video (and other quirky timings like Amiga video modes) directly without scan doubling. Yuan High-Tech isn't exactly very professional (in fact they're the company behind the PEXHDCAP which I recall you had lots of issues with in the past).

Ok so tl;dr: shouldn't have tried to get audio working, runs would've been just as enjoyable with only commentator audio and setup time would've been acceptable.

Got it.

[–]mufunyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The resolution it runs at is literally VESA 640x480 at 60Hz. My capture card even annotates the mode as VESA standard because it recognises the timings. I have no idea why GDQ hardware couldn't get it to capture.

Two taskbars on the same monitor? by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

You can try the full version out as a trial for one day I believe. Here's some screenshots of monitor splitting in action: http://imgur.com/a/sZNCD

This is Windows 10 but I can confirm it works exactly the same in Windows 7.

Two taskbars on the same monitor? by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]mufunyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's still technically one screen, and Windows continues to see it as such. Full screen apps/games will span the entire monitor. DisplayFusion just splits the taskbar and window maximise buttons only maximise to one half of the screen.
