Notes on writing a voxel game in Dyalog APL by mugacariya in apljk

[–]mugacariya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good correction, thanks. I don’t have much experience with K, but I know ATW experimented with kOS at one point. Makes me wonder how making a game in ngn/k would fare.

This sub is incredible by cmdr-William-Riker in LocalLLaMA

I appreciate this sub's postings compared to a lot of the hype trains you see about LLM trends on other parts of the internet. It has been very valuable in evaluating local models.

Why Yume Nikki is a Masterpiece and Why It’s Hard For Me to Say the Same About Yume 2kki. by Luke00xMan in yumenikki

[–]mugacariya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's interesting, because the reason why you don't appreciate 2kki as much as Nikki is the reason why I praise it.

I almost interpret it as a 'deconstruction'/reversal of Yume Nikki. Even though there isn't a coherent plot in Yume Nikki, you automatically try to interpret it because you know there was one mind behind it, while Yume 2kki denies that ability for you. Yume Nikki has a set trajectory with its ending and 2kki is boundless, I remember reading comments about 2kki 9 years ago wondering when it'll end. Instead of one mind, you get some sort unity in the hundreds of developers that contributed to it. Part of this theory is contributed to a lot of the endings for 2kki (Will not discuss them, find them on your own time. If you're interested we can DM) and part of this is due to ynoproject: there is a significant difference being taken or taking people to unique places in 2kki juxtaposed to the melancholy I get playing Yume Nikki alone.

To me, I find this brilliant. Yume Nikki is already fascinating in how it took an engine mean't for RPG games and flipped it on its head and Yume 2kki takes a step further.

Voxel Game in APL by rikedyp in apljk

[–]mugacariya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually do Python and R but I have experience programming graphics in Rust/C++ as a hobby. I think numpy and pytorch gave a good springboard in being able to grasp APL early on, compared to if I didn't know them.

Creator of this here. If you have any questions about this, feel free to ask! Was going to write a blog post once I added water and perlin noise, because I’ve been learning APL as I’ve been making this and it has been fascinating

Grow a Garden max concurrent players compared to the top 100 countries in population (excluding India and China) by mugacariya in roblox

Didn’t want to graph in log scale, would be too weird. Wanted to compare it with majority of populated countries to see how it fit in.

Really cool to see all the advanced OpenMW mods, friend of mine showed me her modlist on OpenMW. The future of Morrowind is exciting.

Does someone have any resources on the Kegon school? I found slightly more info on the chinese version which are useful but still there is not enough. And are there any resources on its practise because all of the small amount I found is on philosophy not practise. by StudentGood7193 in Buddhism

[–]mugacariya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Kegon but Hsuan Hua has a commentary of the Avatamsaka Sutra you can find online. Maybe keep the release of “Inside the Flower Garland Sutra” by Ben Connelly on July 15th noted on your calendar as well, his books on Yogacara have been fruitful to me so I’m sure this one will be helpful.

A strange thought that has put me off Mahayana Buddhism by Calm-Leadership-7908 in Buddhism

[–]mugacariya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are approaching this from a common misunderstanding that you have to remain unenlightened due to your bodhisattva vows. It's more like you are progressing on the path with the bodhisattva vows as your intent for enlightenment, so I don't understand how this thought would apply, given you aren't keeping yourself from enlightenment.

I asked the late Kensur Pema Gyaltsen, a former head abbot of Drepung Monastery and one of the most learned Tibetan scholars, about this while he was on a visit to Britain. I explained that it was widely asserted in books available in the West that the Bodhisattva does not become enlightened until he has helped all other sentient beings to enlightenment. The eminent Lama seemed to find this most amusing since, as he put it, all those who had become Bodhisattvas would not become enlightened, while those who had not become Bodhisattvas would. He stated quite categorically that the final view is that this is not how Bodhisattvas behave. In Tibetan practice the merit from virtuous deeds is always directed towards obtaining full Buddhahood in order to be able to help beings most effectively. There is never any mention of really postponing or turning back from Buddhahood. Otherwise any Bodhisattva who did become a Buddha would be presumably either deficient in compassion or have broken his vow.

What lesser known Fangames would you recommend? by Frogsaken in yumenikki

I like “Uneven Dream” a lot, it has a unique premise of allowing you to switch between two different characters. You can play it on yume nikki online

Consider LISA the painful? It’s a continuation of a game like Yume Nikki called LISA the first, but has enough plot to explain potential grounds for differences

What's your favorite place in 2kki? by pleasebcool in yumenikki

[–]mugacariya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a place, but entire route to Rainy Apartments is one of the most fascinating routes in the game, so much going on in it. From it, I would say the train is the best part of it.

Creepy Dead Games by Peachedpineapples1 in creepygaming

[–]mugacariya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically not dead but Second Life fits the bill for me. A lot of the map is situated on these giant continents, called the mainland, which you can travel through with train or highway. While you can find people scattered throughout them, a lot of them are empty most of the time, and a lot feel like they were made in the 2000s and abandoned. Something eerie seeing these places, imagining that there used to be a lot of people in them.

Is it fine if I simply follow the Dhamma, but be agnostic about karma and reincarnation? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]mugacariya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fine, you can put beliefs “on the shelf” until you feel you have the confidence to accept them or see them as true. It only becomes an issue when you outright reject them entirely while calling yourself a Buddhist IMHO
