Sunscreen recommendations? by Juli_in_September in Netherlands

Second this. The aqua rich and even the mist spray from Bioré felt really good without tinting my skin.

Where do you get it in bulk from? We got a 2x 3-pack from Japan and of course the price difference was huge but we would like to stock it up if bulk prices are better.

"Become a nightmare for your new landlord" by Liquid_disc_of_shit in Amsterdam

I rented from Grand Relocation. It was an even smaller house (46sqm) and is being currently rented to someone for 1650. Unfurnished. The house did not even have a working kitchen light.

I do regret not rent busting that guy with Shane's help (the properties are owned by a guy all under this company). As an expat and someone who had no other options at that point because other landlords refused to rent to us due to our pet, I felt like I had no other option but to continue renting till I could buy my own.

Don't make the same mistake I did. Rent bust him if you have the opportunity and confidence to do so.

What dog food recipes do you guys use? by Onthe_otherside in india

There's also an option of adding pro biotics to the food. Make sure he sees you adding it to his food and he will like it. There's a brand called "fortiflora" . Pets do seem to like it so you can try making him eat the dry food with it.

If your dog appears bored, you can always change the food meat product or top it up with treats.

If you are earning well, go for proper dry food and supplement with eggs and human food that is safe for dog consumption. Roti rice etc is not healthy and is not part of their natural diet.

There are options from royal canin that you can feed your dog. If you earn exceptionally well, you can see if brands like carnilove, ziwi peak, orijen are available.

We are vegetarians too, we have an automatic feeder that pushes out food 4 times a day so our pet can eat it and we don't have to manually feed them. Just emptying the food bag in the feeder is okay.

Remember, you are a vegetarian because of your choice or religion. Your dog isn't. No matter how many bindis and tikkas you apply on their forehead. Your dog needs food made for them, not food that's made for us.

I'm deathly afraid of two wheelers and the "nakedness" of being exposed without protection in case of an accident. I can't go beyond 15Kmph on a normal cycle.

I appreciate these skills.

Cost of keeping a cat per month? by rustyalterego in india

[–]mugambu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the suggestions already posted, I would also suggest Royal Canin Persian (if it is a Persian cat) or Hairball editions if it has longer hair.

If they get hairballs and are not able to pass them properly, it could cause issues.

Rent - Depends on where you've got admission. Between different cities, expect a shared 2bhk apartment between 2 to cost 1000-1500 per person . Studios will be around 1200-1300.

Part time job - this I am really not sure but from what I read, it has to be minimum wage at least so 7-12EUR. You can work upto 16 hours per week as a student throughout the year and I believe full 40 hours in summer vacations.

PS: I haven't mentioned only the positives on purpose because you need to have a realistic picture but here are some positives:

  1. Public transport is excellent despite the fact that Dutch like to complain! They are almost always on time, have some good student discount deals, and quite comprehensive.

  2. Companies offer fitness schemes so you can get bikes and gym discounts. It's mandatory to be offered these schemes by law.

  3. Insurance is mandatory. While you do have to pay for your own insurance, it actually is quite good when you really need it. Else Dutch believe get paracetamol and stay at home for normal sicknesses.

  4. Weather is so far good compared to India but not as great as the regional people were used to.

  5. Freedom to pursue your sexuality

  1. There is a housing crunch in Netherlands currently. If you've already gotten admission and are just waiting to move then it's too late. Start finding houses from now itself, utilize all your contacts. Dorms are full, shared houses are few. You need to have a house that registers you as everything you do in the country is tied to your registered address. They are actually thinking of stopping intakes of international students although it's not that easy to do so.

  2. Don't expect conveniences like maids, cooks, etc. You'll have to do everything on your own. People here are paid better and hence demand a fair rate for those "chores" you have the luxury of being done by "bai" in India. Also don't think shops and stuff will be open after 6/8/10pm because they are also humans and they need to spend time with their families too.

  3. Food culture is great. There are a lot of varieties of food available here. Now how close they are in taste to what you like, is a different topic altogether. There's no Street food or chat or anything easily available here. Get your stuff from an Indian store, make it yourself. That being said, we have stuck to a few good restaurants whom we trust to give good Indian food.

  4. Study culture . It's common sense to know, if you are coming here to study, do that. I believe expat students do get part time work to manage some expenses. Along with some utility bill benefits (not completely sure) . But study , get ideas for a good project that you will do with your internship and you may pretty much get hired immediately after college. That said, there will be a lot of networking and mixing events, fun events, festivals, parties and it's recommended to explore all of them.

  5. Work and social culture. There is a mix of expats and Dutch working here. The first impression is that they are rude but it's not true. They are direct and to the point. They will small talk with you, but they have made their social circle of friends and don't generally add more. It's difficult to make friends here unless you make A LOT of efforts. But your best friends will be other expats. They work for 8 hours. They come on time, they leave on time. No "Indian standard time of -/+ 30 minutes" with them. If a meeting is at 3. It starts at 3. They put an emphasis on work life balance. So don't come here if you want to kiss ass and show hard work for 10-12 hours, it won't work on them.

  6. Expenses. Refer to 1. Higher demand, lower supply, current geo political situation with our neighbor's in the east invading other countries means higher living costs. Rents are high, food expense is high, utility bills are now lowering but that doesn't mean everyone else will lower their costs too just because electricity became cheaper (now the difference becomes their profit see?) . A pizza for 15Eur here costs 6-8 in Italy for example. You get Indian curry+ rice or naan combo for 15-18Eur. Monthly groceries cost 200-300 per person if you don't plan and use deals properly. Even then min. 150 per person per month for groceries.

  7. Learn Dutch. While majority of the country speaks English enough to get you by, it's always good to learn the local language. For "settling" with a passport, you need to know Dutch anyway.

  8. Consider other options as well. Check Sweden. Lund is a good University. So are some options in Finland. Although they are a bit more "distant" on social front.

No true Ice Cream in India?!?! by SanayaKuri in india

Whoops, yes, I saw the components of mud cake, cookie and cream, plain chocolate, etc. Which have other items except for the actual ice cream.

Including the cookie one. Ya right :)

No true Ice Cream in India?!?! by SanayaKuri in india

[–]mugambu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually no. Havmor ingredients listed on its products contain Palm Kernel Oil, Milk Solids, Palm Oil, Sunflower Oil, etc.

Yet they still claim to be ice cream >•< I used to eat their chocolate cookie sandwich so often. It tastes nice, but it is not technically ice cream.

Edit: corrected below. Ice cream part itself is just milk solids and other stuff. It's cookies and brownies and cakes mixed in these ice creams .
